Jonathan Jones With Interesting Breakdown of Cam's Incompletions

You spend a whole year developing a gameplan based on your personnel. Coming into this season it was clear to me that the Panthers had committed to rebuilding. Wr's and oline were the focus of this rebuild, obviously. I think we had a good scheme for a young team. But with the amount of injuries taken by the rbs and oline, what do you really expect? Without Tolbert, half our playbook is scrapped. At 1 point we were starting 3rd and 4th string rbs. Now we are starting 5th round picks from the canadian draft to cover cam's blindside. It is bad. Very bad. But until we are healthy, I am not convinced that this team is hopeless.

Cam puts alot on his own shoulders. But with an oline that is constantly falling in on top of him, I don't know how much more he could give? how accurate can you be when your dropping back on every other throw? I get mad watching these games. But, it's not our team out there. It's about half of it. I want to see us healthy again. Then I'll decide if heads should be chopped off..

I am sure that everyone will treat Cotchery's "drop" inside the 10 as his fault. But, you would be partially wrong.

Should he have come down with it....yes, that is his job even though the shot he took was big.

However, the throw from Cam was WAY late. Cotchery had broken open at the 20, but the ball came out very late from Cam and allowed the safety time to make the play. Many "dropped" balls are usually the fault of both the QB and the WR. Sometimes one is more at fault....and other times it is the other being more at fault.

But, on this board it would be all Cotchery's fault.

It is Rivera's fault, Shula's fault, the OLines fault, the WR's fault (did I miss anyone?) that Cam has a whopping 22 completions in the past two games.....they are a contributing factor. However, the fact is that Cam has NOT played well the past few games. I hope he and the offense get out of the funk they are in.

I can agree that Cam hasn't played great but the situation isn't good right now.

I would like to see the stat on how many plays Olsen was in the backfield blocking!!  It sure looked like a lot in the first half of the Saints game.  I know our O-line is horrible and they probably needed that extra blocker back there, but you have one of your other TE's do that.  You are not helping your QB at all when you take one of your best weapons out of the play.

Cam did not have a good game the other day, I get it.  But going back to looking, drafting, bringing in some other teams cast off veteran in an attempt to a find a QB is not going to help.  It would make matters worse.  Just look at how many teams bring in QB after QB, including the Panthers in years past.

Put some talent around the guy we have, who we have all seen has skills and maybe even bringing in a coaching staff who knows what they are doing. (I am losing faith in who we have.)

Even when he is afraid of intentional grounding, which is worse taking a 10 or 15 yards sack which also makes the down count or taking a 5 yard penalty and loss of down.

What is this intentional grounding thing you speak of? All you have to do throw is throw the ball two feet in front of you on the ground and it won't get called "because there's a receiver in the area".

At least that what I saw a few times from moleface Thursday night.

He can wipe away that performance on Thursday night by balling out on Monday Night Football. If we're going to finish the season with a winning record, if we're going to win the Division, then it starts Monday Night!

We've never had back to back winning seasons

NFC South has never had back to back champions

It starts Monday night. If he has another off night, then we're pretty much done. 3-6-1 or 4-5-1 with an opportunity to push to 5-5-1 during our bye week.

Didn't say he was, but he's not the antithesis of Montana either, like some would have it seem.

I feel like Panthers fans don't like Cam as much as other teams fans don't like him. Saying it was a bad throw to Bersin? Lol I think an nfl caliber receiver catches that. I know an nfl caliber receiver catches that. Receivers always letting cam down.

Hey, Kaepernick and Cam have similar stats yet Kaepernick has 4 1000 yd recievers and a good line. What would cam do with that?

    • Derrick Brown was one player I never called or even suggested was a bust . Dude was young and hadn't even hit his stride. It takes time to learn the position. The thing I appreciated about him is that he kept improving season after season. He got paid and keeps on going like the Energizer Bunny.
    • How many teams coddle their QB the way Bryce has been coddled? I have never seen any other team in the NFL EVER baby a QB the way that Bryce has been.  Bryce was named day 1 starter his first year. It was obvious he didnt deserve it. He wasnt ready as evidenced by the worst rookie year in NFL history.  So let's move to year 2. He's named starter again with no competition in TC and is benched 2 games later. We have the ghost of a backup in Dalton who is so bad he can only beat Vegas and let's remember, the only reason he lost his starting job was a car accident, not because Bryce actually beat him out in practice.  And year 3. We sign Dalton again, who already proved he couldn't be depended on to put an even remotely passable performance on the field, and bring back Jack Plummer, who was even worse than last year. It was obvious he was nothing more than a pretend body in an attempt to create an illusion of some type of attempt to find a backup.  Then we start again with garbage play again and Bryce gets benched with a phantom injury, and the ghost of the ghost of Dalton breaks his thumb on the first drive and craps the field all over again. If we had actually made an attempt to find a legitimate QB2, it's possible Bryce doesn't step on the field again. Bryce is not agood QB and if we had any other mediocre QB, our record would be the same or better.  Bryce is not entrenched. He's been placed, protected and sheltered from ever having to face a  real QB competition in TC. Richardson and Levis both were ass and both were benched and eventually replaced.  Do I expect Baker to face competition in camp? Sure. I expect Tampa to find the best QB2 they can at price that fits their cap and resources and system and get him up to speed. If he's better than Baker, and if he's better by a significant margin, that's best for the team. The ultimate goal is a Super Bowl. Bellichek was constantly getting QB2s with the GOAT as his starter. He knew the value and that was realized when Cassell led them to an 11-5 record as a backup.  You and I may think differently than the people that matter but I will say it again. If you're afraid to bring in a capable backup, especially after the debacle of last year. The starting role wasn't earned, it was given, and that's loser mentality.
    • I would have done the same thing.  LSU is a much better job than Ole Miss.  Plus the enormous contract and every advantage a college team can offer in terms of recruiting and facilities and tradition etc
