The run to the playoffs begins Sunday!

I'm a really positive fan with a heavy dose of rationality.

This team isn't making the playoffs. The New Orleans game was the time to really turn our season around and we blew it. The Eagles debacle was just the icing on the cake. It's truly miraculous that we have not been all but mathematically eliminated yet, and are still "in contention." There has only been one time I've seen a team rally back from the brink of hope: the 2004 Panthers.

For those of you who don't remember, or weren't fans during those days, we started 1-7. We were coming off the Superbowl run and Smitty (primed for a HUGE year) broke his leg and was out for the season on opening night.

Despite a ferocious finish to the season, we finished 7-9 and narrowly missed the playoffs.

Here's a huge difference between that season and this season. That season we were losing games, but we were competitive. This season we are losing games and simply aren't competitive.

It was painfully obvious during the Eagles game. You could have blacked out the scoreboard and shown me any random play and I would have told you we were losing. While the Eagles were swarming to the ball and gang tackling, the Panthers had their heads low and were trudging around like they just heard grave news. Outside of a few players, our team's body language reflected we had lost the game before it was out of hand.

Momentum is a very real thing in the NFL and right now we have NONE of it. Zero. Not a bit.

It isn't one single thing that has caused this catastrophic season. Terrible o-line and secondary, beat up defensive line, the Hardy debacle, questionable play calling, dropped balls, forced throws, injuries to Cam, reversal of our luck with hitting on free agents......lots of things have not broken our way.

I hate to say it, but even if we win Sunday this team is not equipped for a deep run. At some point our talent inadequacies are going to rear their ugly head and when they do we haven't shown any fire to overcome adversity.

Despite what some of you think the future is really bright in Carolina. We have two of the best young stars in the game, and have drafted some real blue chippers recently. I really don't believe Rivera is the reason for this season, but he will be a scapegoat. With a new coaching regime and a fresh season we will be contenders in the near future.

So yea beating Atlanta would be nice because I will forever hate Matt flaccid penis arm Ryan, but at this point this team has shown you what it's made of.

I am not. I am sure we can beat the Falcons. If we fail to beat them, then I will join you guys.

Well you're setting yourself up for failure. This team has been exposed on all phases. Any time Sproles mention what they saw on tape and it turn out to be exactly that proves it. Defenses know what plays and routes we run. Offenses know our garbage schemes and weak secondary

Give it up.

We would have to win every single remaining game to have a winning season.

You really think this team is capable of winning even one more game?

Have you seen the Falcons play? How about the Bucs? Those are easliy three more wins. Add in MIN and that puts us at 7-6-1. We have to go into a slugfest with NO and the Browns. Steal one of those and we are at 8-6-1 and I think NO will lose more than a few games to end the season.

We could lose to the Saints at NO and win the rest and have a winning season.

8-7-1

Yes we are 3-6-1 and one. Of all the losses we have had, how many did you think we were realistically going to win at the start of the season? Pitt? Ravens? Seahawks? Philly? GB? Or the Saints? Yeah yeah it's the way we lost bla bla but the season is about to start for us.

On Sunday, the offense comes alive again. To the people complaining about Rivera leaving Cam in there, I think it was a good decision. Let him play through the sulking, he is a grown ass man being paid to play big boy football. In the end, granted it was garbage time, he completed some nice throws and made a nice TD throw to KB. That sort of memory could help him in crucial game time situations.

Oh and Bene may be back.

This is to the rest of the season! Go Panthers, KEEP POUNDING that ass.

We won't be beating the Falcons. They will feast on our secondary and I'm sure our offense will continue to look inadequate. They're also coming off of a win (albeit the Bucs), something we haven't experienced in some time.

To be honest I'm not sure we could beat anyone right now.

    • Here’s a summary of the JJ and Luke podcast transcript. Opening / Bryce Young Fifth-Year Option     •    JJ: Breaking news — Panthers picked up Bryce Young’s fifth-year option at $25.9M, guaranteed, coming in 2027. Combined with his 2025 salary of ~$6M, that’s $31M over two years — called it a “no-brainer.”     •    Luke: Enthusiastic about the move. Highlighted Bryce’s improving TD/INT ratios (11/10 → 15/9 → 23/11) and the value of entering year three with Dave Canales. Noted $25M is a bargain relative to the $60M top of market. Luke’s Personal Update — Charlotte Christian Football     •    Luke: Working with Charlotte Christian school football program, which hired a new head coach. Coaches include Greg Olsen, Luke, and Greg’s dad Chris Olsen (a New Jersey State coaching Hall of Famer).     •    JJ: Jokingly quipped that Charlotte Christian’s coaching staff is “the world’s greatest” — a Fox analyst, a Hall of Famer, and the best Panthers RB ever — all coaching middle school football.     •    Luke: Praised Chris Olsen’s deep football knowledge spanning decades and his ability to connect with kids. Round 1, Pick 19 — Monroe Freeling, OT, Georgia     •    JJ: Panthers were on the clock and submitted their pick almost immediately — a sign of confidence and preparation. Freeling is 6’7”, 320 lbs, played in the SEC in a pro-style system.     •    Luke: Loved the pick. Emphasized you can never have too many quality offensive linemen. Noted Freeling’s size, athleticism, and arm length as key traits. Said the pick also reflects team’s philosophy of drafting great people, not just great players.     •    JJ: Noted reporter Darren Gantt compared Freeling favorably to Jordan Gross — bigger, heavier, and faster — as a potential franchise left tackle.     •    Luke: Pointed out that young players like Freeling still have physical development ahead of them, comparing the trajectory to Christian McCaffrey’s growth from age 20 onward. Round 2, Pick 49 — Lee Hunter, DT, Texas Tech     •    JJ: Panthers traded up from 51 to 49 (pick swap with Minnesota) to grab Hunter. Played audio from Panthers area scout Kaden McLuhan, who scouted Hunter.     •    Scout Kaden McLuhan (audio): Said Hunter’s size is immediately striking, and that everyone around him spoke glowingly about his character, energy, and love for the game.     •    Luke: Praised Hunter as a massive (6’3”, 320 lbs, ~34” arms) two-gap nose tackle who fits perfectly in the Evero defense. Compared his prospect profile to Akiem Hicks. Said having Derek Brown, Bobby Brown, Derrick Brown, Terson Wharton, and now Hunter creates varied body types that stress offensive linemen.     •    JJ: Noted Hunter ranked third among all prospects in run-stuff rate and sixth in interior pass-rush win rate — addressing a perception that he couldn’t rush the passer. Rounds 3–7 Highlights     •    Luke: Highlighted WR Brazle (3rd round, 6’4”, 437 speed, 1,000+ yards at Tennessee) as the vertical threat the offense needed. Also praised OL Sam Heck (5th round) as a technically sound player whose “short arms” caused him to fall but who has proven himself.     •    Luke: Mentioned CB Will Lee (6’1”, 33” arms) fits the Panthers’ DB prototype — big, long corners.     •    Luke: Praised S/LB hybrid Zaki Wheatley (5th round, 6’3”) as a big nickel similar to Trayvon Merek.     •    Luke: Excited about the linebacker competition between Devin Lloyd, Trevvin Wallace, and Claudin Cherless.     •    JJ: Noted Panthers had the #1 “steal/overreach” rating in the entire draft — drafting players lower than consensus big boards projected. Around the League     •    Luke: Admitted being “a little jealous” that the Miami Dolphins drafted LB Jacob Rodriguez (Luke’s favorite LB in the draft). Has personal connections to Miami’s coaching staff (Jeff Hafley, DC Shawn Dugen — a childhood teammate).     •    Luke: Also noted Miami’s selection of OT/G Kaden Proctor out of Alabama, who will likely move to guard. League Trends — Bigger Tight Ends / 12 & 13 Personnel     •    JJ: Observed the NFL saw its highest run rate in ~11 years (~52%) and a notable pivot toward big blocking tight ends in this draft.     •    Luke: Explained the cyclical nature of NFL offense/defense evolution — as defenses get smaller to match spread offenses, teams counter with bigger personnel (12/13 formations), which then forces defenses to get bigger at the nickel/“big nickel” spot. Called it an ongoing arms race.
