I can sum up our improvement in some numbers: 15-30. Combined record of the teams we've beat since our "improvement."

That's being as simplistic as can be. If you read the article, you will know that there's been a shift in the offensive philosophy. Also, since Stewart became the feature back, our running game is vastly improved. I don't think its coincidence.

However, he never took the time to mention Newton buying time and making the proper reads on his own (with out play action and Zone read), such as the big passes to Benjamin, Dixon, Bersin and of course Stewart late in Sunday's games.

 

Those were all on Newton being a pocket QB, looking off the defense, buying time and making the proper throws.

 

Like I said; good article. However, not mentioning these things (though we know Bucky knows, and he's only mentioning the Read Option, motion stuff we haven't always seen much), will only reinforce the erroneous national stereotype that Newton's a RG3 type QB, which he's not.

We are talking about an improvement. Newton has been doing traditional QB stuff all through the season. What was missing was his running game. This article is highlighting why that suddenly makes the offense better because Shula is catering more to it.

Agreed.

 

However, I don't think most of the national audience reading the article reading it knows Cam does/did those things.

 

Plus, when he mentioned Cam standing in the pocket earlier in the season, Brooks failed to mention that's when Newton was arguably playing his best the entire season. He mentioned it. However, he didn't point out that important element of how well he was playing, when he was running very little.

 

It's almost like Brooks was championing for the mobile QB......I get why people do that. However, you still have to give credit where/when credit is do (particularly with Cam in the pocket), otherwise we can't get mad when other folks group Newton into the "mobile" category almost exclusively with the likes of RG3 and Kaepernick.

Honestly....... I'm more worried about the refs allowing the Falcons to play extra physical...........yet throwing a flag on us,  anytime a defender attempts to get physical with one of their WRs/TE. 

 

 

Trufant and company want to push our WRs around?  I'm down for that..  you won't hear a peep out of me about them getting extra physical with our guys,    as long as our defense is allowed to return the favor.

      It will be really interesting to see how both sides handle this. I'm sure the team would love to get him signed to a 4 year deal based on his output so far and some potential factored in, i.e. something like a 4 year $30 million contract.  But I could see his agent telling him the best path is to take the one year offer, put up a big year next year and then really cash in. The team also has to keep in mind T-Mac's 2nd contract, which likely will happen after the 2027 season assuming he keeps improving as expected.  Even if we could get him on a budget 4 year deal for what he could become, the problem then becomes when he wants to re-negotiate in 2 years during the same summer we will extend T-Mac, and you don't want to spend that much on WRs in one offseason, just see the Bengals this last year. Taking everything into consideration, I'm thinking the 1 year deal and then getting him to sign a 4-5 year deal after hopefully say a 800ish yard season next year might be best for our cap situation and separate his and T-Mac's negotiation periods.

      And yet jax made it no further than we did, and its very possible the Pats don't either. I think it speaks more to the overall down year for the nfl as far as having great/dominant teams, every team this year has fatal flaws that can be exploited

      Ehhh I agree the nfc is stronger this year but their really werent any truly dominant teams this year everyone is flawed, I think the narrative for the NFL this year will to try ahd force a Josh Allen SB win
