It is only pre season but the following is true...

......no team has ever won a Super Bowl if they went 0-4 in pre season. I have not done a totally flawless search on this, but certainly things that tend to be true in the past, tend to be true in the future.

Best way to get to a Super Bowl, statistically, seems to be to go 2-2 in pre season. That probably shows a balance of strength and willingness to accept losses in the short run, to win in the longer run.

Last time Panthers went to the Super Bowl they were undefeated in pre season, just for the record.

I am going to stop short of saying that one of the next two pre season games is a MUST win. But it's close.

Just a thought.......

but.....but....but the Lions!!! OP, u really think thts wht players think about during games? Week 17, Kasay lines up to take a game winning, division clinching FG to take Carolina to a 12-4 record and first round bye. Even tho he knows he can make it, he will prolly just have this thought "I could make this, but we were 4-0 in preseason, so its not like we're gunna win the super bowl anyways....i mine as well just miss this kick....." who the F has their pre-season record on their mind when their working toward a Super Bowl run?

Oh and another tidbit for yall, no bald QB has ever won the super bowl. the only one close was Trent Dilfer with Baltimore in 2000. Ironically enough, he gets the least credit for taking his team there. See i have random thoughts to

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
