NFL.com Gil Brandt @ Gil_Brandt

Mar 12

Mariota did well but guy who really made lots of $$ today was

OT Jake Fisher. Ultra-athletic. Moves around like pt guard.

Possible 1st round

Theres just are only a few "experts" that I value there opinion and listen when they give information. Gil is a proven old head, that still knows the current game.

Plus he's isn't only one talking up fishers pro day, many others said it was better than his combine. I called fisher flawless there, whats better than flawless?

Greg Gabriel, who was a scout for Giants 1985-2001 before spending 9 years as Director of College Scouting for the Bears (2002-2010):

from his prospect focus on Jake Fisher:

"Jake Fisher from Oregon is a left tackle... Since the season ended, his value has shot up. I think one of the reasons is that once the coaches got involved in the process, they saw more to Fisher’s game than some scouts did. ... When you watch tape, it jumps out that he is very well coached. He has very good snap reaction, keeps his back straight in pass protection, and does an excellent job using his hands. Right now, he is a better pass blocker than a run blocker... I see his best fit as a left tackle in a zone scheme. ... The player he reminds me of from an athletic and size point of view is OT Lane Johnson who was the fourth overall pick in the 2013 draft to the Eagles. While he isn’t as talented as Johnson was he has the same type of game. It wouldn’t surprise me if Fisher went in the lower part of the first round, but I feel it is more likely that he goes in the early second."

note Lane Johnson rated as Pro Football Focus' second-best right tackle in the NFL and only allowed one sack and two hits in 909 snaps

Johnson was named to Pro Football Focus' All-Pro Team along with Eagles' left tackle Jason Peters.

It wouldn't surprise me if Chip Kelly took him @20. It's time for Lane Johnson to move over to the left side and Peters is on the wrong side of 30 to be running plays every 15-20 seconds. Kelly is much more likely to value Fisher higher than other teams since he knows, him and has experience in the system. If this occurs look for the Eagles to offer up Peters on draft day and the Panthers to make a run at him.

I could totally see something like that happening.

    • No saying he mostly sucks is saying that he doesn’t suck the minority of the time.   Like if he took 17 tests and had a couple of really good showings and a handful of pretty good scores sprinkled in among the typical sub par results.   Like a golfer who went out and shot an 89.  There will be some real nice shots sprinkled in there but at the end of the day it is still 89.
    • It's worth mentioning... Game 1: Oct 11 in Raleigh. 4-3 OT win with a complete starting lineup. Game 2: Dec 13 in Philly. 4-3 SO win without Jaccob Slavin. Game 3: Dec 14 in Raleigh. 3-2 SO win with a complete starting lineup. Game 4: Apr 13 in Philly. 3-2 SO loss with the AHL roster.  Those early season games were no indication of the Canes team that finished the season. Miller and Ehlers were still trying to figure things out, Nikishin was still a work in progress and the Stankoven line was just another line. Make no mistake, the Canes team Philly will see is nothing close to what they saw at any point in the season. If the top line starts producing, Freddie stays hot and the blue line does what it does, this could be a sweep as well.
