Squirrels 1.0 Mock

First and foremost I think we will fix the LT position in Free Agency so I wont be mocking any OT here.  Just doing 4 rounds as after that it is just a crap shoot.

1st round pick

Vic Beasley LB Clemson

Davis isn't going to be around forever and Vic would help ease the pain

2nd round

Senquez Golson CB Ole Miss

Would be a first rounder if he was 2 inches taller.

3rd rounder

Stephon Diggs  WR Maryland

Panthers need speed and he also returns Punts.

4th Rounder

Mario Alford WR WVU

Gettleman double dips again this time at WR and speed.  Alford has the speed for YAC's and can return Kickoffs.

Golson out of Ole Miss is an interesting guy. I have questions if Beasley could play stand up linebacker in the 4-3. If we did draft him, he'd probably play DE full time.

I want no part of Beasley. How do you expect a dude at 235lbs. to play DE in the NFL full time? Don't really like the fit in our defense especially as a LBer in the first round. We desperately need a playmaker on offense in the first round, protection up front, or a safety.

Looking at the future. Davis will probably retire after next season.

Are we really in position to be looking at the future in the first round of this upcoming draft? We have glaring holes at LT, WR, S, and bigger holes at CB, DE, RT, and RB2 (when DeAngelo is gone) than we have at LBer. That's probably the deepest position we have on this entire roster. We were competitive against Seattle but surrendered some untimely pressures because of Bell, dropped some huge conversions and could get no separation in the passing game, and got burned by the big play which ultimately lead to a loss. We aren't that far away from competing with the gold standard of NFL teams for four quarters on the road and drafting a linebacker in the first round isn't going to help us close the gap any faster this off-season. Glanton has TDs speed and performed admirably as a UDFA while Klein is solid. I suspect we will draft an outside backer in the middle rounds to improve special teams and provide depth but we aren't good enough elsewhere on our roster to take an OLB in a 4-3 defense in the first round with glaring holes elsewhere. The only position I want us drafting in the first round if we go defense is safety or DE if a blue chip guy falls to 25 for whatever reason.

Think they will take care of the LT position in free agency. Bpa in first round between Wr Lber DE or CB.

Well some LT is probably going to have to be a surprise cut in order for us to fill the need via FA. Roos---the only LT worth a damn---will likely retire.

    • Sorry man you lost me at "Teppers have evolved as owners". Limped into playoffs at 8-9 not even above .500 Tepper is trash as an owner bro and that's not even a discussion at this point. 37-83 w/l ratio. Nuff said.... Morgan tho, he's cooking and it ain't cuz of Teppers leadership
    • After listening to Morgan's presser twice, I came away with some key beliefs. First of all, I don't think he's a bullshitter. What you see is what you get. When he says something, he means it.  The Teppers really have evolved as owners. Morgan has mentioned how they're easy to work with--a pleasure to work with a few times now. There seems to be a good relationship between all of them (and include Dave Canales on that). We'll see if it lasts. Yes, no one wanted to come to Carolina with the previous management, but that seems to have changed. The team signed arguably the top Edge, LB and OT on the market, two of them on pretty good deals and one on what I'll say is "not a bad one." And, credit Sunshine Dave "Flowers and Cotton Candy" Canales for helping to change the culture. Morgan mentioned getting guys--and I'm paraphrasing--that are not only great football players but great people. Don't look for us to be acquiring any James Pearce types anytime soon, just saying. We'll see if that holds true in the future. Dan Morgan really has set up the Panthers to take the BPA/BAP. He mentioned it at least a couple of times, and he doesn't seem pressured to pinpoint a particular position. He just wants quality players that will help the team. This is how it's going to be (to your joy or dismay, probably for as long as he's here), and personally I love it. Many of us know how Morgan was when he played: aggressive! That's what he's going to be when making acquisitions. He explicitly said it, and emphasized it. All avenues are open (think FA, waivers...the draft)! Personally, as long as it's controlled aggression and not reckless aggression, I love it.  On KP: "Mobility is big in this league."  He basically says if another QB is the BPA while drafting--we're going by our board, people--we're going to add them.        ...
    • Canes are so fascinating. Despite inconsistent defense and poor goalie play they keep winning.
