Agreed. We won't know what we can afford until FA signings begin to happen and the market is set by offers.  What I've tended to do in the past and I would imagine would work based on our philosophy going forward would be to look at the big name free agents that would fit here in Carolina then think "poor man's version of (insert FA name here)".

Cobb is meh.

He's good, for sure.  But he also has Rodgers throwing him the ball.  Jones averaged more yards as a 3d/4th WR under Rodgers for like 3 years than he has as a go-to in Oakland.

He'll be a valuable FA, for sure, but nowhere near the value we need with our cap situation.

No I'm a bad player hater.. I love Pep and he was a tarhole.. How many teams has Tate given his great returning skills and 4th WR option to now....4-5.. he sucks and i'd rather go young instead of retread..

Uh, he's only played for two teams. Not to mention he's only 27 lol at "retread".

If you're going to rag the guy AT LEAST know WTF you are talking about. Incredible that some "fans" can't get past their UNC envy and jealousy. I believe your general assesment would have been better suited for Ted Ginn.

And nobody with half a brain is going to expect this guy to come in here and be Julian Edelman. Just need a guy who can move the ball on returns and maybe get a few looks in a game.

I can tell you this too - Tate would probably instantly become the fastest guy on the team.

What?  The Pats drafted him and he played with them for two years and he's been with the Bengals for the last four seasons.

He'd be brought in as a return man first and foremost.  He'd a very solid return man.  I wouldn't want him any higher than 4th on the WR depth chart though.  At least he'd bring some much needed speed to the unit.

Proof that guy doesn't know what he's talking about.

Great numbers? Where did I say anything about him being great? Can't you read?

Dude is a solid return man and a serviceable 4th or 5th WR option. He won't break the bank either. Ted Ginn was brought here just for returns and he had a pretty solid year here.

You spoke out of your ass and got called out on it. Move on dude. The damage is done. Go pick apart UNC's defensive recruiting class and find some irrelevant point on how the #3 class in the ACC sucks..LOL!

Be real the reason you won't show his WR numbers because he sucks at WR..even for a 4th or 5th option.. He is a ok returner and that's it.. I want a returner who can actually be a serviceable Wr.. Tate isn't that..

Side note:

Just like PJ Harriston do we really need him back in NC.. Didn't he get in some trouble at UNC because of being around the wrong people? ?

WTF are you talking about? Better yet, STOP TALKING. You have no idea what you're talking about and it is painfully obvious.

Only a MORON would expect for the Panthers to sign this guy and Tate reward them with 1000 yards and 8tds. He is not an elite WR and never will be. However, he is "serviceable" to have a starting NFL job since 2009 and has made some nice $$$ while doing so. Serviceable to me is a guy who is a proven skilled return man. Can get us a little better starting field position than the 18 yard line. If he get's us a receiving TD then that's an added bonus. He would be an immediate upgrade. Signing him would also mean Brenton Bersin probably won't be on the team next year so that's another reason to get excited.

Personally, I'd rather have Dwayne Harris but they both will probably be in the "Target" shopping range G-Man has mentioned shopping in this offseason.

Like I said, you talked out of your ass and got called on it. End of story dude.

Why did he leave UNC again... and again i'd rather sign Dwayne Harris or draft a returner we can develop into a WR.. or the best Option....Philly learns how to catch punts.. All better options then wasting money on Tate who has been giving chance after chance at New England and Cleveland to teams who needed WR's at those times..

I completely agree but you don't want too many puppy WR.

I also agree.  I would love a veteran in his prime.  I read somewhere that free agent WRs that switch teams often disappoint.

This off season is going to be very interesting.
