Round 1 (25)- Randy Gregory DE / Nebraska

 

I typically stay away from players who fail a drug test before the biggest pay day of your life, I mean how stupid can you be to smoke it up in a situation that could cost you millions of dollars. That being said, Gregory has the frame to grow into an elite 4-3 pass rusher and in my opinion has the highest ceiling of any DE in the draft. It wouldn't surprise me if he still goes before our pick with teams like the Bengals and Saints that couldn't care less what crime you commit, but if he's there at #25 I don't think Gettleman will let 1 second go by before the card has been handed in.

 

 

 

Round 2 (57)- Quinten Rollins CB / Miami of Ohio

 

The Panthers have been looking a lot of CB's during the draft process and if one of BPA value falls to Gettleman in the 2nd I think he'll grab them. Who would expect the Panthers to go defense with their first two picks when we have glaring needs at OT and WR? Rollins has great fluidity and has a very high ceiling even with his limited football experience. Some mocks have him going in the 1st but it wouldn't surprise me if he went mid 2nd with the possibility of dropping to us.

 

 

 

Round 3 (89) - Duke Johnson RB / Miami

 

Running backs typically fall a bit in the draft so Johnson being available in the 3rd wouldn't be that big of a surprise. Duke wouldn't instantly give the Panthers a shifty play maker at RB and give Cam a weapon to check down to on occasion. 

 

Round 3 (late) - Cedric Ogbuehi OT / Texas A&M (Trade 4th and 5th round pick)

 

With the current plethora of free agency moves by Gettleman I'm starting to believe that he'll only draft an OT in the 1st if it's the exact OT he wants. It's clear that Gettleman doesn't want to reach for an OT and will likely look for a later round prospect to train up into the position. Ogbuehi makes a lot of sense considering his recovery from ACL surgery might keep him from playing early but with the move Gettleman has made, we could bring Ogbuehi along slowly and eventually get great value out of the pick. 

 

 

 

Round 5 (169)- Clayton Geathers SS / UCF

 

A big safety prospect with great athleticism. Will have to be worked into the roster but could potentially take over the starting job from Harper after several games.

 

 

 

Round 5 (174)- Ty Montgomery WR / Stanford

 

A bit of a project and mostly a one trick pony with straight line speed, could be developed into our future kick returner and future replacement of Ginn.

 

 

Round 6 (201)- Christian Covington DT/ Rice

 

I really like Covington, talent wise he should be a 3-4 round pick in my opinion but health concerns might drop him into the 6th round. Covington reminds me of Dwan Edwards and would be a good developmental DT to give us some young depth.

 

 

Round 7 (243)- Justin Coleman CB / Tennessee

 

Good depth addition, played well at nickel at Tenn and would be an immediate special teams contributor.

Gregory is a freaking 43 DE! Anyone taking him as a OLB will fugg him up.

But no way will he be there at 25. Kid is imo the best player in this draft! Dumb foo can keep believing he's too small.

Gregory is a 3-4 olb..

      Drafting X is like the poster board for mistakes. Hopefully, lesson learned.

      Yeah, I could jump right into the unbelievable Bryce debate now that some people are trying to flip the script because Bryce Young has, at most, a handful of decent games as a pro, but that's going to work itself out. Suffice it to say that I've seen better QBs (with an s) in a Panthers uniform, and I've certainly seen better QBs be drafted while we're playing around with Bryce, one of them who beat the crap out of us already this season... Let's forget about Bryce (and his markedly underwhelming play since he's been here); I think that most sane fans will agree that drafting him was an error, but it happens. Sure, it doesn't happen to the tune of King's ransom---including your main receiver---but it happens. You bet, you lose. Speaking of receivers...and betting and losing... Oh, man, we drafted Xavier Legette. Yes, just like with Bryce, I've entered "the dark side." Some Huddlers were telling us from the beginning, and they were right. But, I'm not apologizing for waiting to see what a guy's got before making my decision on him. X was a one-year wonder at South Carolina who parlayed some really nice production that season, a great personality and thick country accent, into becoming a first round pick (but only in Carolina). For Dan Morgan and company, He was a big swing that has turned into a big whiff (and I can still feel the ill breeze from that one). Sh¡t happens, right? Well, not so fast. Ladd McConkey was the decidedly more polished receiver who was literally ready to hit the ground running as soon as stepping onto the field as a pro. Ladd was never the biggest guy (though not the smallest), but he was the guy that could run routes, always seemed to get open---no question---and had the same speed as X, but with legit quickness and nuanced shake and bake. But Dan chose the project. He chose the guy where the game speed looks more like a tractor trailer than a 5.0 mustang. Look, I've supported X (just like Bryce) many many a day, but no more. Now I'm not saying that I won't root for the guy. Just like with Bryce, he seems like a great kid. But as far as giving excuses for the kid, and, perhaps more importantly, waiting for some miraculous breakout, I'm done with that. I've seen enough. You don't draft a project for a project. And yes, Bryce had proven to be a project after his first season. In my mind, drafting a supposedly number one receiver that needs lots of development for a starting quarterback that needs immediate help to try and further his development is not going to lead to good things. Pick the surest guy. Or at least pick the one who appears to be the surest guy, because picking can be tricky... especially when you're too busy tricking yourself.

      That TD pass to Legette against Miami. Elite. The play where Bryce rolls right to buy time until Tet can reverse field.  Bryce pumps as multiple defenders close in.  He barely gets it away before he takes a big time hit.  Beautiful off platform throw and great catch by Tet.   The second TD to Tet against Dallas where Bryce dips and turns his shoulder in to evade the pass rusher.  Resets and finds Tet in the end zone. Dude embodies the Keep Pounding mantra.
