And to those thinking Boykin & others are just camp bodies

top dawg

Boykin is very average. Relying on these types of guys when you have the ability and means to sign someone better is why we are mediocre. It is an insult to Cam. Disagree if you want.

That sounds just like Rivera and Gettleman in Free agency, the question is will it work out this off season like it did in 13 or will it look more like last season.

If Greg Jennings signs with the Panthers, disregard anything I've said on the matter. I may have interpreted what Rivera said differently. I just want us to get a reliable (and CONSISTENT) threat. I believe we have the means and capacity to do that. Appreciate the response and your explanation of the quotes though.

I respect that.

After having guys like McNutt, King, Legedu, and Underwood doing next to nothing here, I'm taking all this with a grain of salt.

Even the guy who came in with a decent resume the year before in Cotchery ended up being unreliable too often.

I'm ready to see what we can come away with in the draft.

Here i go making it about Boykin again...

I hear the skepticism, and I don't blame you.  Not that it makes you feel any better, but none of those guys had the type of productivity that Boykin did when he actually got an opportunity. Unlike them, you can actually see some hard evidence of him being a very serviceable receiver as a pro, even if it was for only one year (not to mention making solid contributions on special teams). Trust me.  I remember his 2013 season very vividly.  If Boykin's best pro showing is what we can look forward to with him as our 3 or 4, then we're already ahead of schedule.  If not, then...he'll be kicked to the curb like the rest of the scrubs.

No it's not, it's about you reading the huddle and regurgitating what many posters have already expressed. Then you go, and add your own twist to it.

Whatever. You wouldn't be a hater, would you?  Even if your contention is true, let me hip you to something.  Many of us have the same views and regurgitate the same things over and over again every year, not only on the Huddle, but you see it across the NFL.

It's the "twists" that keep all of this stuff interesting.  And like I always tell my son, it's the "twists" that are the difference between ordinary, good and great.

Now carry on with the hate...

We've now had three years to look at the way Gettleman manages the offseason process and can ascertain a fairly accurate understanding of it.

Gettleman believes he can find players at any spot that other teams don't care for, and that he can make them work here. This will unfortunately lead to a lot of boom or bust years which very well might alternate in spontaneous shifts as we've seen the past two seasons. We'll get some good seasons, but with this method, it's going to be hard to find consistent success and be a perennial contender unfortunately. For every Mike Mitchell you name, there'll be a Tiquan Underwood, Jason Avant, and Thomas Decoud.

Gettleman may be good at his job, but he's got to realize that so is everyone else. Jarrett Boykin isn't a better option over Greg Jennings just because we paid less or because he's now got a Panther logo on his helmet.

Buckle in, because it's going to be up and down, and we all saw how long Richardson held onto Fox/Hurney because of a SB loss.

Being spoon fed that another scrub WR is going to come in and light it up for us as our new #2. Same old story, different year.

No one said he was going to be our new WR2. It would be nice if he could play to that level, but he hasn't thus far, and I don't think that anyone has that expectation.

I understand your thoughts, but don't forget one big thing: Gettleman has been dealing in a cap-challenged atmosphere.  Perhaps next year will be different.  Moreover, don't forget that we tried to sign Jennings...it just didn't work out.

You're right, that was mean. I apologize

    • Rico walking is no big deal. I'll take a healthy 2024 Hubbard over Rico any time and losing Mays is, again, no a big deal.  Young is signed for what, $35M for the next two years? Say he wants $50M but the FO doesn't. If they put the franchise tag on him, that would be around $55? So basically they are getting Young for the next 3 years for an average of $30M per year. Putting the franchise tag on him wouldn't be my first choice but it gives them an option that wouldn't be locking him into a long term, $50M contract. I'm not suggestion they do that. Just that the option will be there should they get to that point. Hunt is on a 5 year deal which is done in 28 so he either restructures or is gone anyway. Moton will be 35 by then and will either be gone or have diminished playing time. Neither of those players has anything to do with getting Young a contract. The O line is way overpaid anyway. Hopefully by the time they are gone, Freeling and Hecht will be developed and Ickey will be healthy. Young was benched his second year and only got his job back because Dalton was injured. Not sure how you can call that entitled. And I would NOT say putting a rookie QB on a team with no receivers, tight ends or O lineman and then being put with a coach who never wanted you and is fired mid season, is a definition of luck. As far as competition, no team is going to bring in competition for a QB picked first overall - especially given the capital that was given up to get him.
    • With apologies to Lady Cowboy fan, any day we can screw over the Cowboys is a GOOD day…
    • Been here since 2014ish. Good times. Its a shame Zod wont sell, it wouldnt take that much effort to get this place back into shape.
