Hornets officially locked into 9th worst record

Well I will admit that I was one of the guys wanting McDermott, and I still think in the short term he could have helped us more. He was buried on the bench of a much better team. He, at the very least can hit a jump shot. But why draft a guy who can do that? His D is terrible, but since our "defensive coach" finds Al's defense acceptable...who gives a f***.

I hated the Vonleh pick when we made it, for the reasons already mentioned... We already had a #4 overall invested in the position with Cody, and I felt like he still had a lot of potential to grow, which he does, but to me the pick made no sense...

Now, if we actually had a coach that knew when and how to play the guys he has, ideally, I would like to see Cody and Vonleh on the floor together for the future. Al and his ilk are dinosaurs. Sure, it's cool to see a legit big with post moves for days scoring from the block, but the vast majority who possess that ability are sloths who struggle defensively... And even if they can guard their position, that style of play is a thing of the past. The game has become guard and shooting-centric, focused on the outside... Al bogs down offenses, clogs up driving lanes, and destroys ball movement for open/better shots.

I really hope we find a way to unload him, but sadly, I see our FO locking him up with a long-term contract to end his career here.

I understand why the pick would not be a favorite, but for the first time in a long time, the Hornets went with BPA, and long-term Vonleh has the all-around skills you look for in a modern 4. He actually possesses alot of the skills that made McBob so important (stretch the floor, defend the rim, handle the ball, etc) the problem is he's just so young and needs time to develop.

Ideally, yeah, Vonleh/Zeller front line would be great, but Zeller is a 4/5 tweener. Not strong enough to play the 5 and not skilled enough to play the 4. Cho should have dealt Zeller, who has a much lower ceiling, to concentrate on working on the Vonleh Project. I could definitely see in a roster overhaul situation Cho choosing one or the other, because two projects at the 4 isn't doing anyone any favors.

Gett is infinitely better than Chou.

Do you think Gett would have

A) signed big al

B ) signed kemba to an extension

C) signed Lance

The answer to all questions is no.

Gettleman did sign Decoud and Cason, tho. They were cheap pickups, but they were signed by him.

Just throwing this out there. Would this be a good draft to use our pick as trade bait to unload Al's and/or Lance's contract for an expiring? Cho can work out some trades and perhaps cap relief would help this team more than another rookie.

That's a complete waste of an asset. Lance and Al have one more year left, no reason to attach value to dump them.

    • He can’t.  Not by NFL standards.  More than enough evidence at this stage to make that determination.  For even a chance at one Bryce has to get perfect look and that’s not NFL football.  Bryce’s ball placement and accuracy are horrible downfield.  That applied at Bama.  Bama WRs just had room to adjust.  Bryce defenders just repeat this lie about his Bama deep ball.  NFL balls have to be well placed to dudes only NFL open.  Countless plays for years where dudes are NFL open downfield and Bryce just lets the DB have just as good as a shot at it or takes the WR out of bounds.  It’s not a debate.  Dudes flat out open this year on repeat.  He can’t make the throws.  So the talk about not having speed is auto debunked and a distraction.  Open is open and Bryce has gotten the looks
    • In 2021, Young only completed 10 passes of 20 yards or more, resulting in a 36.1% completion rate on such throws, according to AL.com. This was significantly less than other Alabama quarterbacks like Mac Jones in 2020 (29 completions, 58%) and Tua Tagovailoa in 2018 (24 completions, 57.1%).
    • False. During his best statistical season at Alabama, Bryce completed only 36.1% of passes longer than 20 yards. For comparison, his two predecessors Mac Jones and Tua had respectively completed 58% and 48.6% of throws longer than 20 yards.
