I feel something very very wrong with Jonathan Stewart

Either way it's in the Panthers best interest to keep it quiet now. Let the other teams have to game plan for him. We'll have to see I guess... I really hope he's OK. I really like Goodson, he has seriously impressed me, but he's a rookie and I don't want to have to rely on him or run Deangelo into the ground either...

Well to play into what SMF fears, it would make sense if they were extra concerned about Stewart why they wouldn't play Williams at all vs Balt.

Good call. I didn't even think about that. Could be a big reason why they wanted to give Goodson nearly a whole game's worth of practice with the starting O-line.

On the positive side, the kid did very well. I'm not saying he's on 34 or 28's level, but aside from his early fumble issues, I wouldn't exactly panic if they did a 65-35 split of carries between Goodson and Williams during the regular season.

So was Stew last year, so at least we have that on our side. :)

If he was our starting RB, and we didnt have Goodson I would be really worried.....so I saw if hes really got a problem, let it heal up all the way. There is no need for him to rush back, as we have one of the best RB's in the league ahead of him anyways. Id be interested to see what DWill could do with 35 carries a game.

At the first sign of Achilles tendon pain, cut back and reduce your training. Stop speed training and hill running, and begin gentle calf stretching after exercise when the muscle and tendon is still warm and flexible. Post-exercise ice may also help. Be carful to avoid excessive stretching that could aggravate the problem. Strengthening the calf muscle can help reduce the stress on the Achilles tendon. Toe raises, and balancing on your toes, and wall stretching are useful exercises.

Achilles Tendonitis Causes

Achilles tendonitis is a chronic injury that occurs primarily from overuse. It tends to come on gradually over time until pain is constant and exercise or activity too painful to continue. The biggest cause of chronic Achilles tendonitis is ignoring early warning signs and pushing through pain. If the Achilles tendon is sore, or aches, you need to pay attention and rest it immediately.

Another major contributor in the development of Achilles tendonitis is tight of weak calf muscles. If this muscle is weak and becomes fatigued, it will tighten and shorten. Overuse also causes muscle fatigue. The bottom line with Achilles tendonitis is that the more fatigued the calf muscles are (regardless if it is from weakness or overuse), the shorter and tighter they will become. This tightness increases the stress on the Achilles tendon, and a tendonitis can develop. Sudden increases in training, hill running or a lot of speedwork can also lead to Achilles tendonitis.

It is not necessary to stop activity completely (you may consider cross training) as long as you pay attention to muscle soreness and reduce activity accordingly.

when i went to training camp he was there and doing the pre-practice warm ups and stretches with everyone else. he looked fine. you could see him walking around and he looked ok. that isn't running and cutting but is that something that you are supposed to be doing when you are trying to get an achilles tendon healthier?

what he needed was rest and to strengthen the calf muscle.

if he misses any time at all it won't be for long. they may hold him out for the first game or first few leading up to the early bye. they could just give him light duty during that time to let him work back in slowly.

there is very little reason to worry at this point.
