This horror film from 2014 has garnered critical acclaim (98% on Rotten Tomatoes) for the performances and old-school horror vibe. It's a low-budget Austrailian film about a widowed mother and her young son dealing with a malicious entity that appears after reading a children's book.

I watched it last night and it is definitely one of the creepier movies you'll see for a while. Brilliant acting by the lead character and the kid as well as thought provoking material about mental illness and raising a child.

It's a must see for horror fans and it's on Netflix now.

Yeah, it starts off a little slow, but it's definitely unsettling once it gets going. The lead actress gave a fantastic performance.

 

In terms of being in the horror genre, it's more in line with a film like The Shining.

I so want The Visit to be good, and the trailer looks promosing, but I'll remain skeptical because M. Night has ruined any cred he had built from his early days.

I liked it a lot. It's one of those movies that stick with you too. Sometimes when I'm walking through the house at night I almost expect to hear that creepy voice go "Baba-dook-dook" and I almost poo myself just from the thought.

As a father with a 7 year old, this movie particularly hit home. Man that kid was an annoying poo at first, but you realize the young actors brilliance as the movie progresses. Good film, gave me chills a few times!

Lol.  Just watched it.  This movie was stupid but the acting by both the mother and child was good.  I don't know how a director gets a kid to act like that.

I watched this movie also...didn't think it was scary. Good acting.

I hate scary films but want to see this. The guy that directed the Exorcist called it the most terrifying film he ever watched, now some of you say it isn't scary at all. Not sure what to think but maybe I will watch it in the middle of the day with the blinds open and every light in the house on.

Movie started good but I'd and mom got annoying. Worth a watch on Netflix though.
