Quotes to Note: Draft Wrap Up

A couple of the more pertinent excerpts...

RE: If this draft class helps them matchup better with the best teams in the NFC

RR: “It goes back to why do you target a Shaq Thompson? Well, because you have a guy that can play the linebacking position and at the same time be a matchup for the tight end. It gives you flexibility because now a team, if they’re going to sit there and move the tight ends from one side to the other, now you have guys who can go out and cover those guys. And his speed. He can run. You’ve got three linebackers that can run. When you put those three linebackers on the field at the same time, you create a different animal. If you want to go more physical, you can put another combination of linebackers on the field. So there are some matchup things we can do because of the bodies we have now in our linebacking corps.

“In the receiving corps, now you sit back and say OK, you’ve got Kelvin [benjamin] on one side, you’ve got Devin [Funchess] on the other side. Now you’ve got Corey Brown. You’ve got different combinations of receivers. You create that type of difficulty because now people have to match up with your three different types of wide receivers. Then you’ve got tight ends. How are you going to match up with all those different types of guys? So some of those things we did with that in mind.”

RE: On taking two linebackers in the draft this year

DG: “One of the things we talked about in that post-season presser was speed. We talked about that, and we’re addressing it … There was a coaching phrase I saw a million years ago when I was a high school coach that said, ‘speed makes geniuses of us all.’ Both of these kids, obviously Shaq [Thompson] and David, and David can run. It’s all part of it.”

Know what will be funny? When it's time for the 2016 draft and the same people keep posting "We should trade down. It's Gettleman's philosophy to trade down, he's wise like me, we should trade down."

Sound wisdom from Rivera.

I'd like to think both of those players could have been had further down the board however.

Further down, probably. How much further down, though? At 57? At 82? Our second rounder was practically a third rounder already. If you want someone, you can't count on them falling to the end of the round.

Yesh but we'll already be picking at spot 32.

A reporter from Dallas said Thompson would have been a Cowboy at 27 if we hadn't taken him.

(the tweet itself is in one of the draft threads if you wanna look for it)

on their board, the guys selected had better value than the pick, or picks used to select them.

At what point do you ignore that to support your arguement?

And I think they could have been had further down the board saving picks.

You have a comprehension issue?

Why does what you think matter? Not to be a dick, but Gettleman does this for a living. If he feels they would have been gone or that they were worth the slot they were selected, who are we to judge until they touch the field? Wait until these guys line up before passing judgement on the draft process.

Well you are being a dick.

I expressed an opinion.

My bad, "here on Teh Huddle do not express an opinion". got it.
