David Gettleman draft Recap on WFNZ.

About addressing speed: Shaq is fast. David Funchess... plays faster than people realize.

We felt very strongly about Shaq. Humphries was taken right in front of us... and we feel really good about Shaq.

It's about drafting value. We traded up because of the draft value.

The most dangerous thing you can do in the draft, is say "he'll be there in the next round."

About LT and not drafting one:

"I believe in Oher. We put in a ton of film work. He wanted to be here badly. Did he struggle in Tennessee, sure. I don't want to LT by committee. With having Michael, we weren't going to shop hungry."

Last year, we were in cap hell... we held our water, and we got 2 comp picks. The 2 5th round comp picks which enabled us to get those two guys.

On RB- CAP (UFDA) - he's going to get every opportunity. You have people yell and scream that he cant hit a homerun. How many 20 yard runs are there in the NFL? You're playing guys that are playing at warp speed. Its about vision, instinct and accelerate at the right time.

Asked about CB

sometimes the answers on your roster. I know you hate it. We like Teddy Williams. As a vice guy,(guy who blocks the other guys gunner) he shows all the athletic skills to play corner. We have to coach what you've got.

We have talent on our roster...

If Lael Collins, would we consider:

"You know what, I don't want to talk about hypotheticals." (awkward pause. next question.)

David Mayo- We were the only visit he had. John Peterson felt really strong about him. We brought him in and he kept checking out with every scout. He will tag your fanny.

Also mentioned Oher reuniting with Matsko and that John got him started, fed him, burped him...something of the nature.

Sounds like we heard a real laid back... "matter of fact" interview with Dave Gettleman. It was good stuff. I believe in this guy. He hasn't let us down yet.

Is it just me or does he seem to be a lot more open and direct this year then last year? He seems very upfront about the teams board and what we were looking to do and why we did what we did.

Overall I think he learned his lesson from the Steve Smith debacle and is now not holding back and expressing what he is thinking about and what the team is wanting or needing.

I believe in this guy and feel like in the "re-drafts" we will be looking very solid and nobody is going to be upset with our picks.

It's easy to talk about your draft, after it's done.

He wasn't so upfront, "talky" or honest before it.

"we weren't going to shop hungry."  Every time I do that I end up saying 'can't believe I bought this crap'.

"I believe in Oher. We put in a ton of film work." The guy did start for 5 yrs. in Baltimore, and he's not 29 yet.

"We like Teddy Williams."  Hope we do too.

"We have talent on our roster..."  The grass is always greener.....

If our rookies play well, there will still be some Huddlers that will be upset our rookies are being judged too soon. "Need at least 3 years to judge a rookie you Gettleman nut-huggers" is what they'll say.

Bring up Star and KK and they'll say, "well we haven't re-signed them yet, have we?" Then 2 years after we do re-sign both, they'll say, " well they haven't lived up to their 2nd contract yet"

Don't underestimate how miserable some Huddlers want you to feel.

The more I think about the Shaq pick the more I like it. This is a defensive minded staff. Defenses win Championships. Taking basically a hybrid player is genius. We now have a player that can stop the run and cover. No need in switching him out only to have the QB audible out to a run.

As far as Funchess is concerned I would rather have game speed over track speed any day.

Williams will fight Remmers (and probably win) the right tackle spot.

I felt when we signed Oher so fast that he was our left tackle and that he was as good as any rookie in the draft. Don't underestimate the bond between Matsko and Oher.

As I said in another thread. Mayo was defensive player of the year for his conference and Artis-Payne was 1st team all SEC.

haha I totally agree. I try to laugh it off. Look at last years draft and undrafted rookies and people still talk about wasting the Gaffney pick when NE stole him from us.

    • there is one common denominator in the 2003 & 2015 Carolina Panthers teams they both had ELITE top tier Qb play.  it would require a MVP type of season from Bryce Young to have the same type of success that Jake Delhomme had in  2003 & or Cam Newton in 2015 & lead this team to a SuperBowl is this going to happen or is there any reason to believe Bryce Young is capable of playing similar to Jake Delhomme in 2003 or Cam Newton in 2015 ? well no there is no absolutely NO reason whatsoever to believe that this is going to happen in 2026 ..just saying
    • I'd actually like to see Cherelus get a fair shot to win the job in camp. Wallace is decent in drop zone coverage, but he gets abused in the play action game and is often times out of position in the run game. It might just be me, but I swear every time I watch Wallace play, I see multiple plays a game were it looks like he's just trying to be blocked. Watching Cherelus last year he at least looked like he was trying to hit someone on every play. Wallace plays like a LB who doesn't trust what he sees and it makes him passive and cautious versus Cherelus who regardless of if his decision is right or wrong goes at it 100%.
    • Agreed.  Hasn’t happened to me either, but I feel very strongly about it.  That’s not just one of the worst things a woman could do to a man, it’s a power inherent to only women and is one of the worst things a HUMAN being can do to another.  A man can’t “hide” a pregnancy or maternity.  It’s impossible.  And that sucks for anyone that has to go through that. I always got a weird vibe off her and just found her very unlikeable.  Annoying even.  I’ve always been good at reading people and there was just something about her to me that was off-putting, somewhere under the surface.  And here we are…  she is despicable.
