NFL says Pats guilty, and Brady knew

Recommended Posts

Former NFL quarterback Chris Simms, who was on the Patriots' coaching staff in 2012, said:

"I don't see how you don't suspend him," he said. "This is the face of the NFL, one of the all-time great quarterbacks. He tried to get a tactical advantage. It's against the rules. There's no denying that and, yeah, I think he's in big trouble. I think he's going to lose a number of games this year. ... I'd think it's going to be a six-game suspension and it's cut down to four. ... I think he's got to make a stance here, Roger Goodell, because of his relationship with (Patriots owner Robert) Kraft."

Simms adds that this also tarnishes Brady's legacy.

"There's going to be a semi-asterisk next to Tom Brady's name forever now," he said.

St Louis Post Dispatch:

If you violate a rule, it’s forgivable. But Brady keeps walking deeper into the mess by feigning innocence and having his lawyer-agent go on talk shows to spew ridiculous claims. Among the intelligence-insulting items from the agent, Don Yee , is the suggestion that the Colts and NFL conspired in a sting operation to trap Brady and the Patriots.

It’s downright kooky.

Brady could have taken much of the air out of this controversy. But he’s still refusing to deflate his ego and own up. With a chance to smooth the damage to his rep, this normally smart quarterback stubbornly continues to run the wrong play, and it may be too late for an audible.

This fall, the University of New Hampshire will offer a 400-level, four-credit course on Deflategate.

The instructor of that class is better known as @mccannsportslaw on twitter. He does good work and covers a lot of legal issues for SI. He was probably the best guy to read during the Hernandez trial for informative reports.

2 to 8 was what i was thinking as well...

Fox Sports:

"The general feeling seems to be that Brady will be suspended for multiple games, though that could mean two or eight. One report has already indicated that “everything” is on the table for a potential punishment"

Patriots beat reporter for the Boston Herald

Jeff Howe @ jeffphowe

Source close to the Deflategate investigation believes a disciplinary ruling could be made as early as this afternoon.

"A source close to the Deflategate investigation believes a disciplinary ruling could be made as early as this afternoon. The source stressed nothing official has been relayed, but there is a feeling this situation could be resolved quickly. Obviously, if it doesn't happen today, Monday would then come into focus because the NFL holds off its business dealings over the weekend."

    • if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying
    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
