Stability

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Agreed Scot.

This franchise has had very little direction in it's first 20 years.  I loved the DG hire, still do, and have been able to wrap my head around every single move he has made....all of them.  I rarely, if ever agreed with anything that Hurney did.

I like this, and am really hoping for some consistency over the next 10 years, after such an inconsistent first 20.  If you get to the dance often enough you will slip up and get hot at the right time.

I hear people talk a lot about being in "win now" mode.

The problem I always have with "win now" mode is that all too often the subtext is "to hell with the future".  And I think that's where Hurney kept us.

If I were to describe where Gettleman has us, I think the best phrase would be "win from now on" mode.

I like that idea better.

Agreed.  Build the base, and go from there.  We aren't consistent enough for big FA signings...the only one I would have argued for over the last 5 years would have been for Vincent Jackson, I think that he would have really helped Cam a lot, but whatever.

Side Note: You know what makes seeing the stability in our own franchise even more enjoyable?

Watching the Saints braintrust run around like a chicken with its head cut off.

(and their fans act like it's brilliance)

Well to be fair, I don't know what this website looked like a year ago, but this is what /r/Panthers looked like when we were signing dollar store receivers last year.

We used to defend Hurney, even when we knew how bad things were.

We're not in that position anymore, but it's loads of fun watching a rival fan base that is.

Who?

Kidding, I know most on here did, I just thought he made the worst decisions I have ever seen....and it was going on for years.

I stopped one day when, for reasons long since forgotten, I went and did something like a five year analysis of previous Panther drafts.

Staring that in the face left me no option for continuing to defend him.

I think you and I were going back and forth on it, and you finally just said....holy crap, this is awful.  The day Hurney was fired is probably my favorite Panthers memory right after winning the NFC and going to the SB.

Very possible.
