What is any young QB's best friend? That's right, a dangerous ground game.

When was the last time the Carolina Panthers had a 1,000 yard RB? 2009.

Let's see here. Lynch with Wilson his first 3 seasons: (this is only including his rushing numbers by the way, he's a lethal receiving threat as well)

2012: 1,590 yards, 11 touchdowns

2013: 1,257 yards, 12 touchdowns

2014: 1,306 yards, 13 touchdowns

You cannot understate, even the slightest, the impact that Lynch has on that offense, and how that opens up their passing game. He's arguably the best RB in the league.

We can bot play that game.  The numbers just don't lie.  Cam throws for more yardage, Wilson throws more TD's and less INT's.

Smith is an edge of HOF guy, Olsen is a Pro Bowler, we had two "pro bowl" caliber RB's...Yes, Lynch is great, but Cam hasn't exactly play with a bunch of scrubs.

In regards to the number of interceptions, Newton had 223 more attempts through his first 3 seasons than Wilson. Which obviously also directly affects QB rating as well.

Total yards 3 years in puts Newton at 13,331, and Wilson at 11,827. Total touchdowns 3 years in puts Newton at 92, and Wilson at 83.

They are also pretty much right in line with one another in YPA in passing, and running.

Wilson deserves to enter the $100 million club, but again, to say that literally his floor is the contract that Newton just signed is ludicrous.

Isn't Seattle the firsr top rated d to win a sb recently? The last few years it was top 15ish and a great offense that won.

Yeah so then the question is, will Wilson make them a top offensive team? The answer is probably not. So they need to hang on to their elite defense for them to stay elite.

Are you serious? He really has played with a bunch of scrubs. He's had a bad o-line most of his career, last year he lost EVERY SINGLE ONE of his wide receivers. Before that he only had smitty who was good, but was definitely at the end of his career. You need more than one good wide receiver...

Oh and forgot to mention, he's had two running backs that can never stay healthy.

How is that ludicrous?  It's perfectly reasonable to assume that as NFL QB contracts continue to escalate then Wilson will top Cam's contract and Luck will top Wilson's.  By signing Cam to an extension, DG just set the negotiating table for both Wilson and Luck.  I would almost guarantee Wilson's agent will use Cam's contract as an entry point to get negotiations started.

The poll is messed up.  If I had to choose between Russell Wilson, a franchise QB or an elite defense I'll probably take the franchise QB.  If I have to choose between a franchise QB that Wilson fits the description of or an elite defense I'll take the defense all day.

I didn't expect for it to be so one-sided.  I guess what I was trying to get at was do you pay a franchise QB a mega contract and field a good defense, or do you invest in an elite defense and try to plug in a game manager.  In my mind franchise QB does not necessarily equal elite QB.

I was referring to some of the numbers thrown around here and elsewhere by fans.

Now if we are talking the current market, sure someone could throw a boat load of cash at him.

Who knows him better than Seattle though? Why did they extend an aging running back first? Maybe they aren't sure he is worth that investment? Who knows.

where's the option for both?

they won because of that defense and wilson (who i think is good, but also the luckiest QB in the league with his throws)...............oh yeah...and b/c of lynch.

teams that win big, do it because of several factors, not because of just one thing. it's a team sport.

that said, just because of him being a QB, where he was drafted, how little comparatively with other starting QBs), and the fact that he's been to the superbowl 2 times in his short career...the dude is going to get paid and it's going to be more than cam got.

No, it's not.

He will not sign for less than Newton, unless it's fully guaranteed.  They share similar numbers, although you using Cam's rushing TD's and rushing yards is not really my cup of tea, as I prefer to judge a QB by passing stats, as that's what most likely will remain the same or get better.
