Just got a Chromecast

My son bought one just to watch the draft at my house. I was going to twitter the draft, having cut the cord. So he bought one on sale just so I could watch the draft on ESPN with his Sling account, then left it behind when he went home. He has a zillion devices at his place. All I had was a 3-yr old SONY blu-ray player with a few apps & WatchESPN isn't one of them. I love my son! But for someone without a smartphone, the whole thing has been an enjoyable learning process.

It works wonderfully from my desktop. Using the google cast beta I can cast anything I'm seeing in my chrome browser (called tab casting). Watched the WWC with the European feed the other day because my antenna refuses to pull in FOX. That was fun. Froze just once so I was really impressed.

From my slow-ass tablet, not so much. No tab casting but that depends on your phone or tablet. youtube does work well as does anything from google play, stops playing on the tablet when it's being cast, but there's only so much Star Trek fan video one can take. Of course. LilSmitty's (NFLPanther07) videos always help.

But without a cable subscription to the tv channels, there isn't much from tv-on-the-web that I can cast. I'm borrowing my son's Sling on the desktop when he's not using it for TNT & AMC, mostly the vod. But with its own browser, I can't cast it. Working on that & if I have an answer, I'll share. Sling is supposed to have a chromecast app by year's end. :)

We're a family that shares. I bought Amazon Prime which my daughter prefers. She buys Netflix which I prefer. And now my son has Sling which keeps me from committing suicide without TNT. When Sling gets BBCA and/or SyFy I may get my own account.

Sorry this is so long...hope it reads well.

I have a Chromecast but I almost never use it. Bought an Amazon Firestick, did a little rooting, & I can stream pretty much any TV show or movie ever made. Usually get new movies a day or two before they hit theaters.

    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
    • Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
