Phil Jackson: Duke Players Fail To Live Up To Expectations In The NBA

HAHAHAHA.  Then he fuged up with Miles and Mason too.  Typical bandwagon Duke fan.

I'm a Tarheel, smart guy- hence the mix-up Miles and Mason and bad recollection of players.

I just figured I'd give some recent players that are in the league and rattle a few opinions off the top of my head. And yeah, I only remember Seth playing at Duke for like a year. I am seriously floored right now that you guys say he was a senior, that's crazy. Did he see the floor much as a freshman or sophomore?? No wonder I had ZERO expectations for him...

At Liberty he averaged 20 ppg, that's where he was.  Then he transferred to Duke for his Junior season (had to sit out a year).  And the rest is well mediocrity in my opinion.  To be honest, I think Coach K might of ruined him.

Phil is just stating the obvious. Grant Hill is the only star that has come out of Duke under Coach K.

Irving has a chance to be the second, but he's got to stay healthy long-term and right now that looks debatable.

If you don't count guys like Elton Brand and Carlos Boozer as stars, don't count guys like Vince Carter and Ty Lawson

Vince Carter was a million times better then Brand and Boozer ever were. Those guys were good players, but Vince was a superstar.

Don't be stupid.

You should follow your own advice. Take RG3's career, spread it out for a decade and you have Carter. He was a superstar for two, maybe three years. Most fans probably don't even know he's still in the league.

Not the least bit surprised this thread turned into a UNC circle jerk. At least half of you have to have posters of Jerry Stackhouse over your ceilings at night to give you some spank bank material.

Nope. But I do have a signed Julius Peppers, Harrison Barnes, and Lawrence Taylor UNC jerseys hanging up in my apartment. In frames, if that counts.

You are an obvious Duke troll.

Vince Carter will be in the Naismith Hall of Fame. Additionally, Vince Carter is/was better than Grant Hill or any other Duke player in the NBA.

Vince was the NBA Rookie of the Year in '99, averaging 18/6/3. He followed his rookie season with 10 consecutive seasons of 20+ ppg, including 8 consecutive All-Star games.

first 11 seasons:

50% fg, 23.5 pt, 5.5 reb, 4.3 ast

17 year career:

44% fg, 19.4 pt, 4.8 reb, 3.6 ast

Vince was a superstar for over a decade. Carter's first decade was also better than those 5 or 6 seasons Grant Hill had at his peak before his injuries. In reality Grant Hill is the one who only had 2 or 3 seasons at a legit superstar level. Duke fans have vastly overplayed his skill with the "what if" hypotheticals and act as if he was on pace to be better than Michael freaking Jordan. Grant Hill had 2 or 3 years at a star level, so have hundreds of other players.

I don't know how but even Jamal Magaloire was an All-Star one year.

You know what I like about you? I don't even have to say anything to point out your stupidity and blatant UNC bias. I can just highlight some of your sentences and let the idiocy speak for itself.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
