Sheesh... that difference between all the players we benched/cut/replaced for injury compared to that second half roster turnover... literally the difference in going from one of the worst teams in the league to one of the better ones.

CJ hit/hurried/sacked the QB 4.5 times per game with no bookend.  That's amazing.

Wouldn't expect Kony Ealy as the worst defender or Norwell as best OL.

Here's what caught my eye:

- Remmers more effective in pass blocking than run blocking (bodes well for Cam's strong side protection)

- Josh Norman's penalties cost him -3. Would like to see that drop this year with his increased maturity and decision making.

- Norwell is a road grader when it comes to run blocking. Turner is a better pass protector.

- Philly Brown 1.5 in the running game? Did he run that many sweeps/reverses?

- Kawann seems to have developed into a better player (statwise) than Star. Maybe because Star's role is as more of a space eater?

- Cason -14.7 pass coverage rating. ughh. dude was leading in votes for CB at one point last year.

Well... I know Kelvin had some drops and not enough YAC.  But still I'll take his 1008 yards, 9 TDs, and his dangerous playmaking ability.  If that's "BAD" I'm not too worried, especially remembering how often he was double covered.  With more receiving threats, we should be just fine.

I was surprised at the negative grades for Ealy, Horton & Addison.  I didn't realize that CJ was the only one of our primary DBs last year (obviously not counting Hardy or Alexander) with positive grades.  I had assumed we were ok, not great at this position.  Now, it's looking a little weaker than I thought. 

Would love a more knowledgeable commenter to help put these stats & the currently understood strengths/weaknesses of our DBs in perspective.  Thanks.

And here's to hoping Big Frank will play lights out this year!

Addison is mainly a pass rusher, hence his poor grade in the run and pass coverage. Horton is the opposite, providing solid defense against the run, but almost nothing in the way of pass rush.

Rookie DE's rarely have a strong first year. Especially with how bad the secondary was behind him most of the year.

Ealy's first year: 4 sacks, 1 FF, 12 tackles

Hardy's first year: 3 sacks, 2 FF, 30 tackles

CJ's first full year (08): 6 sacks, 1 FF, 25 tackles

I was just commenting on PFF's grades, not my opinion.

Ed Dickson's low grades are also a surprise to me.  I thought he was considered to be on a positive trend and a player we have quite a bit of confidence in for this year as TE depth.
