Possible outcomes for that play would have been a completion and down by contact, an incompletion or - as was called on the field - an interception.

It couldn't have been an incompletion cuz the ball never hit the ground. I think it was probably a reception and down by contact, but I'll take the interception and return

receiver is not automatically down by contact until he has , and maintains, control.  He did not "maintain" control and in fact lost control with the ball on his chest.  Free ball.  Good call.

But I'm ok if I'm wrong and we just got away with one also!

For it to be called a catch, he has to do that (remember Dez Bryant in the playoffs last year).

The caveat is that the receiver never "maintained" possession of the ball. If Tillman would have knocked it out it would have been incomplete 

 

the fact that the receiver had the ball in his chest for a nanosecond doesn't establish control all the way through the catch.

If they called it a catch on the field it would have stayed a catch...if they called it an INT it shouldn't of stayed an INT like it was.

I know, that's why I think they let it stand as called. That was an awesome play though. Tillman and Coleman really bolster this secondary

I agree with Jeremy.  I thought the interception would stand but that they would bring it back to the spot where he was on the ground.

I could see that - and had the same thought at the time - but nobody really touched Tillman until he had the ball away from the receiver, so understand not calling him down.
