RR's presser

  1. Rivera says Cotchery has a high ankle sprain. Doctors hope he'll be OK for Saints game.

RR: Cotchery had high ankle sprain. Oy. That may not be good.

Just saw that news.

I had hoped we got out of the game without any meaningful injury.  Hopefully this is not too bad.  At least some of our other WRs played well yesterday.  I'm not quite as concerned as I would have been a week ago.

Take it easy Cotch and heal up quickly.  Appreciate your playing through this yesterday but be smart.

agreed.  these things take time in some cases, but I feel better now about our wr's.  Ginn with a great move and catch on the td, and Philly doesn't have a drop in 2 games.

It's a little outrageous that Ron is blaming that blocked field goal on Gano.

If this were the first time we have seen this, that would be one thing, but this has happened repeatedly going back to last season.

I know I can't believe he says stuff like this. It's a 50+ yard field goal it's supposed to come off low lmao.

Is there any team who has allowed more blocked kicks than us over the last 2 seasons?

Well if this information is correct, we are currently leading the NFL this season with 2 out of 6 attempted field goals blocked by an opponent so far.

It lists us as only having had one blocked last season, but that apparently is only counting the regular season, and not the blocked kick in the postseason against Seattle. If you added in that, we would be one behind the two other teams (Jacksonville, and Green Bay) who had 3 blocked field goals (most in the nfl) on the season last year.

Our special teams has been concerning at times for awhile now. It isn't all Gano's fault. Rivera's insistence on downplaying it is strange.

Thanks for the info. That's not even mentioning the blocked punts.

BBR has the full transcript

Quite worth the read.  There are some very good questions asked, and RR answers pretty thoroughly, not just normal "coach speak."

It is interesting how he's back pedalling on the FG unit changes...  hopefully something will change on those kicks.  We are a team that relies pretty heavily on FGs and we need to have confidence that Gano will make even his longer kicks, and more importantly, not risk having a blocked kick become a huge scoring opp for our opponents.

RE: Gano and the blocked FGs, it doesn't surprise me at all.  The only logical explanation I can come up with is this is Rivera's take on gamesmanship and he says all this ridiculous stuff to lull opponents into thinking we're not addressing the real problems.  He does this all the time, throwing the wrong parties under the bus.  I hope that's what it is, cuz otherwise Rivera is one dense mfer.
