NFL.COM Quarter 1 awards - J-No defensive MVP

Jeremy Igo

Recommended Posts

MVP: Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay Packers

The reigning MVP continues to pick apart defenses with exceptional precision and execution. Rodgers leads the NFL with a 125.9 passer rating and has the fourth-best completion percentage (72.4) while sporting a stellar touchdown-to-interception ratio of 11:0. Most importantly, the Packersare off to an impressive 4-0 start and looking like the best team on the planet at the quarter mark.

Contenders: Tom Brady, QB, New England PatriotsAndy Dalton, QB, Cincinnati BengalsKam Chancellor, S, Seattle Seahawks.

Cam Newton not even a contender for MVP but Kam Chancellor is?

MVP doesn't actually mean MVP otherwise he would be

Kinda missing the point no?  Even in a skewed definition of MVP, how do you include Kam Chancellor who played two games over Cam Newton.

Andy Dalton Combined Totals

1224 yards, 10 TD, 0 fumbles, 1 int

Tom Brady Combined Totals

1113 yards, 9 TD, 0 fumbles, 0 int

Kam Chancellor

8 total tackles, 1 forced fumble

And just for fun

Cam Newton Combined Totals

1004 yards, 10 TD, 1 fumble, 2 int

It's just flat out lazy journalism to leave Cam off the contender list.  Does it matter at all?  Nope.  But to not include him in the discussion is something that makes the author lose credibility in my eyes.

well first of all it's bucky brooks, idk what amount of credibility you gave him before this lol.

even if you discount chancellor being in consideration after two games (the author would probably argue he's on pace to win it if things stay the way they are), newton *still* wouldn't be in that list. he's made great strides but he's also compared to other qb's who have a better team around them, leading to purely better stats than cam. in the end it's whoever has the best stats, doesn't matter if we would be 0-4 without our qb.
