Steve Smith out for season with torn achilles

Final stats in 7 games were 46 receptions for 670 yards and three touchdowns. Average game: 6.5 catches (second-highest in career) for 96 yards (third-highest). As it stands, both are far and away the highest per-game averages of any player 36 or older.

Harbaugh seems to think Steve will return. I hope so but I don't see it happening. Achilles tears are brutal.

I don't see him returning just because he's already expressed his desire to retire.
Achilles are no jokes, esp for a WR that depends on speed, cuts, and agility.

However I could see him not wanting to go out being carried off with a towel over his face (though he'd said many times he feels he'd have to leave the Panthers kicking and screaming with them pushing him out)

So who really knows.  Just know I'm thankful for his years as a Carolina Panther. One of the best to ever do it.

Peter King and Jason La Canfora are reporting he is leaning towards coming back for one last year.

Godspeed, Steve.

That is one crazy mofo........if he proves me wrong than he will be the GOAT at WR, to come back from such a debilitating injury that even younger athletes struggle to ever get back to 80% of who they were.  Ice up Smitty!

    • The good thing about replacing a bad player is you really have nothing to lose. If their replacement is bad so what, you didn't get much worse and probably saved money.
    • I came over from the old Panthers Insider site. When Fox Sports bought that platform it slowly just started dying plus the guy who ran that site was dealing with some pretty significant health issues so the whole thing just slowly fell apart. Quite a few of us migrated over here. Not sure how many are still around.  I miss that place. It struck a nice balance of having enough active posters to keep productive conversation flowing but didn't have so much traffic that you end up with a lot of trolling BS. This place is getting there though since we shutdown new registrations but at some point we're going to have to open it back up or we'll watch this place slowly die off too as posters fall off for one reason or another. We just have to figure out a way to filter out the spam bots. It was a never ending battle to ban the spam bots to keep then from overrunning the site. You'd think they'd be a little more strategic. I mean, if you fill a site with nothing but spam people are just going to stop coming so it's not a sustainable model. But nope, every one of them makes dozens of duplicate threads filling up pages upon pages as soon as their account goes live.
    • lol...I don't remember that.  Although recalling what I had for breakfast yesterday is sometimes a challenge.  Hope it was a positive thing.
