Once and for all this needs to be settled...

Two months ago, we published some landmark research on which part of a chicken wing people preferred most. While we are still waiting on news of our Pulitzer Prize nomination for this masterpiece, our crackpot team of scientists have delved into another polarizing chicken wing debate: Blue Cheese or Ranch?

To explore this exciting frontier in consumer research, we polled 1,401 Americans over the age of 13, to see which dipping medium was most popular and among whom. Here’s what we found:

Ranch vs Blue Cheese

Quote

As we can see, ranch dressing is a clear winner in the head-to-head battle, grabbing 61% of the popular vote. Blue cheese, believed by wing purists to be the original accompaniment, comes in a distant second, with just 39% of the vote.

So let’s look at who chooses one creamy dip over the other. There are some pretty clear correlations:

First, it’s interesting to note that the numbers don’t vary at all by gender. Men and women, respectively, fall identically in line. But that’s where the demographic similarities end.

Younger respondents clearly favor ranch. 71% of people aged 18-29 side with ranch dressing, as do 65% of people aged 30-34. Blue cheese earns its highest numbers among GenXers, with 45% of people aged 35-54 picking the overall less popular dip.

Nowhere do the numbers break more clearly than those based on household income. Blue cheese popularity spikes among people making over $75,000 in annual income. In fact, people making between $100-125k are evenly split, with a full 50% choosing blue cheese. Conversely, ranch sees its highest numbers among people making less than $25,000 annually – 74% of these people choose ranch. Similarly, we see one major correlation with respondent education. People with only a high school degree or GED choose ranch over blue cheese 74-26.

Slightly counter-intuitive (given the age and income numbers) is the split we see among people with different political persuasions. Republicans are actually far more likely to prefer ranch (66%) compared to Democrats who choose ranch only 55% of the time. Independents look more like Republicans, picking ranch 65% of the time.

And there are a couple groups of consumers out there who choose blue cheese over ranch, absolutely. Sports fans, namely those people who watch more than 5 hours of sports on TV every week, pick blue cheese over ranch 57-43. So, maybe sports bars see a more even division in their inventory.

Finally, when we looked at respondents who have told us they “love to cook,” we found that avid home chefs choose blue cheese over ranch at a rate of 52% to 48%. This would seem to support the purists’ claims about which is the truly gourmand’s chicken wing accompaniment.

So there you have it. If you prefer ranch to blue cheese you are young, stupid, poor, a republican and not as much of a sports fan as your blue cheese brethren. So take a seat you filthy casuals cause blue cheese is here to fuging stay. #KeepDipping

It's funny because I LOVE Blue Cheese Crumbles (or is it bleu?), and can't stand ranch like on a salad, but for mango habanero wings I love the ranch and the blue cheese just doesn't taste right.

I can't stand when people say it's "bleu". Take your Grey Poupon and jump off a bridge. Elitist scum.

ranch.

BUT i recently baked a chicken-topped pizza and added bleu cheese crumbles into it and it was divine, so maybe there's something to it.

Do not stray my brother. Stay on the path.

    • Looking like it might be game 7 for Pitt and Phi. Philly is spent. I like more rest for the canes
    • Moton is the man through and through. 2 things I'll always give Gettleman credit for, 1 is drafting Moton, the other is building a SB contending roster and blowing it up in one off-season
    • Kurb is still alive and well.  I’m still friends with him on all of the social media.  He truly is a great man!  That’s my bro!  He always looked out for me since the early days of the huddle.  It definitely makes me sad that he just quit posting here, but that’s life.  He still shares his takes on social media and X, but a lot of the huddle vets just grew tired of this format and the environment, I guess?  It’s a lot of guys that were valuable contributors here that just stopped posting but are still alive and passionate Panthers fans.  Blindsite used to post huge write-ups and was a well-respected poster and then just disappeared.  We had one of these type threads several years ago and he checked back in and explained he just lost the motivation to stay active here.  It was amazing hearing from him again…   I signed up in 04 after coming over from the Charlotte.com boards and been here ever since.  (For those that don’t know - this is Proudiddy - had to change the name very recently due to ‘ol tootsie roll penis and the bad press 😂).  I’m forever thankful for all of you, even those who I haven’t had the greatest history with, I still appreciate yall.  Many have come and gone, both figuratively and literally, and that has put a lot into perspective over the years.  I went from a young, newly married, wide-eyed twenty year-old guy with a baby on the way, to a now forty-two year-old guy, recently divorced and newly re-married guy with my oldest baby now an adult and 5 more kids since.  And what ride it has been!  You guys have been a much bigger part of my life than I really care to acknowledge.😂
