Anyone getting Black Ops 3?

I have finally made my re entry back into the video game world After a long hiatus. Purchased a PS4 after a struggling to pick between Xbox or PS. I have been playing Destiny and I love it. Now I preordered black ops 3 and just curious if anyone plans on getting it. I haven't heard much about it so I don't know what's new. I do know that Gamespot wanted me to pay a total of 100 plus dollars for the game and a season pass. I declined and just got the game. Any thoughts on this game?

Friend has it. He said it's very different than say, Advanced Warfare was. Movement is back to being slowed down, with the added benefit of still being able to double jump and now can run along walls. Outside of that, you can't get bailed out by OP movement systems. If you blindly turn a corner, you will die. Good.

I was a "realistic war shooter" purist for a while, but Advanced Warfare and Destiny opened me up a bit. Hear that the weapons are good and the graphics/design are great in this game. You have "abilities" (he didn't elaborate), but they have a cooldown, so they're more for tactical purpose rather than just having OP moves you can perform, which is nice. I should be trading some stuff in to get it in the next week, so I'll post again once I get a chance to actually play.

From what I've seen, this year's CoD gas lifted elements from Destiny. Last year it was titanfall. So there are some familiar elements.

I've watched some game play, and its just not my thing. I love titanfall, but can't get into CoD. The campaign looks interesting though, so I might pick it up when it gets cheap for that.

One thing that upsets me is the sequence after the first mission. I'm not squeamish, enjoy Gear, and love ultra violence as a style. But just what happens to the protagonist is just disturbing. I cant stop seeing it.  I'm not sure why. Anyone else feel the same way?

JMO, but i was super excited for it because it was 'black ops' and treyarch was behind it again, so i was all in, but after playing a few times, im considering selling it back for battlefront or something lol.

Im very disappointed and kind of pissed off, because this is NOT call of duty.  This isnt a realistic/war-style shooter, it is complete sci-fi fantasy and i hate that.  As you guys mentioned with games like titanfall and destiny, that poo is already out there.  It feels like treyarch tried to ride that wave and get in on the momentum of destiny, i guess, but imo, it was a horrible decision.

I actually took a break from CoD after black ops 2.  I bought ghosts but sold it after playing it one time because it was so arcade-ish.  I just didnt like the graphics, the feel, and it just seemed like too much "extra."  In hindsight, i now think that was the beginning of the end for CoD, because BO3 feels like what Ghosts felt like, only multiplied.  It feels fake and unrealistic, from the fake ass weapons to the player movements.  I also absolutely hate the lack of customization...  you pick a class of player but have no control over their gender, appearance, etc.  What happened to the customization from BO and BO2?  Treyarch either just didnt care, or they purposely put out this cartoonish, scifi bullshit.  Imo, they should know their niche in FPS, and that was military-centric, reality-based  (although not as real as Battlefield) gameplay.  This game is anything but that.

yeah i bought it but im gonna trade it in , just not a fun semi realistic game like it used to be.

will give star wars a try at least if im gonna do future gadgets and what not its gonna be all the way space fantasy not some mish mosh.

Yeah, im with you man...  those are my sentiments exactly.

Like i said, CoD was a bit more arcade-like than Battlefield, but in regards to the shooting and gameplay dynamics themselves, it was generally a realistic game.  The perks and killstreaks are what made it unique.  And what i loved moat about it was that they used REAL WEAPONS, so it was fun to customize and base your decisions off reality.  But, this poo is just off the wall.  fuging lazers, electricity guns, gravity spikes, hooded psychics who can see through walls, kinetic armor, "prophets," fantasy-made-up guns from outer space...  take that poo to Halo...  just a huge disappointment.  CoD lost their way.

I got it for PS4, I haven't played seriously since MW3.  Servers had issues last night, couldn't play.  Getting good reviews though.  This game hasn't been semi-realistic since CoD4 so we have to quit expecting that.

I can't wait for Battlefront as well.  Those games should keep me busy for a while.  Wife will playing Fallout 4 on xbox downstairs the next 2 months lol.

Started the campaign. Got through the "tutorial" section. Not bad. Looks great. Bit confusing what they drop you into, but oh well.

Played one game online. Went 12-8. Died twice because I'm an idiot. It's definitely arcade-like, but it's fun. Shooting well actually matters. Those who don't actually aim can't kill you, which is a nice change.

Ive changed my mind on it.  It isnt horrible, and if you give it time, its actually just as addictive of you can get past the lack of realistic weapons, settings, and character customization.  I got on again just to see if maybe i was wrong and ended up playing the whole day lol.

I still find it disappointing compared to BO and BO2, but it is the only game of it did kind of stay within it's niche of shooter somewhere between simulation and arcade, but much, much closer to arcade.  Still wish they wouldve just rehashed the real weapons and customization systems of black ops past, and i would think this is a perfect game.  i just maintain that gripe because the whole picking a pre-determined specialist is a huge turn off and there are enough sci-fi shooter games out there...

But, i have to admit, i got caught up in the gimmicks of wall running and such and completely trashed my KDR lol.  Im averaging like a .60, lol.  Overall, its a good game if you give it a chance, but i wouodve preferred something like "Black Ops 2.5" or "Black Ops Remastered" for current gen lol.

After playing a few more matches, I like it: I will say that this just feels different to me. I haven't started campaign yet but that's next on my list. What I learned so far is , I suck!! Lol. I can't believe how bad I fell off.  I can't aim quite well yet. Not sure what's hindering me but I like it so far

Got the game on Friday and so far I'm enjoying certain parts of it, but there is always something in a Call of Duty game that pisses me off and this game is no exception. I'm not sure if you guys played Advanced Warfare, but I was really happy to see most of the crazy exo-suit flying poo changed back to a couple boost jumps, closer to being like the old Call of Duty games that were actually fun.

For campaign, I wasn't too impressed with it honestly. I've played all the COD campaigns since COD4 and this one seems less than impressive. There were some good moments but in my opinion it was lackluster and possibly the worst campaign I've played from COD.

The multiplayer is somewhat two faced, one game it will be the best game you ever played, the next game it is trash. I agree with what Proudiddy said in terms of comparing it to the old Black Ops games. I noticed it takes forever to level up in multiplayer and sometimes you can shoot somebody several times and then they turn around and kill you in an instant. I liked the old games where you didn't need all this special crap that they have added to the games in the past few years, now it has turned into a Halo type game where jumping around and laser guns with special abilities dominates and that was never the type of game I wanted to play.

The things I like about the game are that the maps seem to flow pretty well with all the abilities and fast movement you get. I also like the zombies mode, and I've always wondered why they didn't just release a new zombies game by itself and putting all their effort into it instead of it being just a side game to campaign and multiplayer. I heard if you beat the campaign in this game you unlock a mode called Nightmares that puts you through the campaign again but against zombies. Sounds pretty fun, might have to try it out.

Well put murk, and too wveryone in the thread, sorry for all my typos, i changed my keyboard on my phone lol.

I agree with everything you said, as you statrd everything i wanted to, just more clearly and concisely lol.  Yall know i ramble...

But, yeah, been playing it some more today, and it really is frustrating at times.  The part where murk said about the hit markers and such is one thing i meant to address but forgot about...  that is a HUGE problem this year.  I dont care what kind of gun you're using,  if i hit you 3 times before you even get a shot off, you should be dead.  And yet, game after game i keep getting dropped after doing just that, including headshots.  Some guy killed me earlier under the same situation as im gunning down on him jumping off a wall and he kills me by shooting me in my foot, LOL.  I watched the killcam...  They definitely need to patch that.

Meant to mention that also murk, but no, i didnt get Advanced Warfare because once i heard about the exo suits and all that flying poo, i decided to stay away.  I felt like that was going down the road we're talking about here -sci-fi, fantasy, halo poo...  and thats the funny thing, i got caught up in the hype and seeing treyarch was behind it again, i just bought it without even researching it...  had i known the game wasnt going to be reality-based at all and would be a complete 180 from the original BO, i wouldnt have bought it.

i agree that the game is garbage but it's the exact same as the past 5 or so releases. they've just continued to add really lame features like the super move, jetpacks, and running on walls.

    • Either way there's some tough teams on the schedule this year, on paper anyways.
    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
