Just went back and rewatched that blocked FG.  It was Ben Jacobs that missed that block on DRC.  Just let him run right around him.  He didn't even really make an effort to block him.

Edit: watched the made FG at the end and Jacobs didn't try to block him there either so apparently this is what Jacobs is supposed to do.  So it must be a timing issue.

I've never seen a player not atleast get chipped there. He didnt even try.

I noticed one thing on that blocked FG. Offense needs to get the fug off the field. I'm looking at Cam walk, Greg walk after failed 3rd down conversion. FG set up with 10 sec left, Gano gets in position at 4 sec, and kicks with 3 sec left

Nortman is a problem. He sets up and he looks at Gano. As soon as he looks at Gano being set he puts his hands up for the ball and its snapped right away. Its predictable as hell. The reason OBJ didnt jump over and block our poo the last FG is cause there was a delay from when Nortman threw his hands up. It froze OBJ. JJ needs to randomize the hike and Nortman needs to have his hands up already waiting for the hike

Good points that are subtle. There is either a tell or like you said..you can time the hike bc of the time remaining.

Exactly. If ST sets up in a reasonable time, the snap wont be so instant once Nortman calls for the ball. The blocking as stanko mentioned along with those other problems is a no brainer why this poo keeps happening

After what Kam did to us in the playoffs. He showed how vulnerable our FG team is and with these blocks, best believe its in our opponents gameplan. Its week 14 going into the playoffs and it's still happening

I can see our  STs giving up one of them playoff onside kicks at the beginning of game or 2nd half that some team always tries.

The unit is not very good and it's got to be coaching. The teams depth has  gotten better over the last couple years good depth equals better players on STs

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
