Kobe Bryant is a fan: "Just go out and do it, don't settle for anything . . . finish it"

Nothing helped Carolina Panthers safety Roman Harpermove past the disappointment of having a perfect season end more than meeting the "Black Mamba."

"I got to meet Kobe Bryant last night," Harper said Tuesday. "I'm riding high. I haven't had many days better than that. I'm good. I'm looking forward to this week."

Harper said that Bryant followed Carolina's success during a 14-0 start that ended with a 20-13 loss to Atlanta on Sunday at the Georgia Dome. He appreciated Bryant's advice as the Panthers move forward with this Sunday's regular-season finale against Tampa Bay.

"One thing he did implement was ... just to go out and do it, don't settle for anything," Harper said. "Just go out there and finish it and go do it.

"Coming from the Black Mamba, I say we've got to go do that."

What could have been, Charlotte.

What never ever had a chance in 100 hells of ever happening. Kobe wouldn't go play for the Nets, you really think he would come to Charlotte 18 years ago or whatever? Hell naw. Kobe never had a chance of being a Hornet, unfortunately...

I was at the Charlotte Hornets game and it was AWESOME!! ..they put Luke up on the big screen at the end....Kuwann Short was there along with Funchess..

Kobe is one of my favorite players and the entire arena was rooting for Kobe  as most of the fans concentrated on him...as a Panthers fan its good to know he has been following their success and was able to light a fire again in Harper..

They should have him come beat the drum in our first division games..

Thanks.  Lol it only took nearly 2 hours but someone finally commented about the actual article with Kobe and the Panthers rather than what happened 20 years ago with the Hornets... like that hasn't already been discussed ad nauseam before over in the Hornets forum

I mean it's a feel good article about how he met up with some of our players and provided some inspirational words, what it meant to them and instead everybody talking about draft night 2 decades ago

    • I thought he was from watching him play and also doing his first HC job. I thought he was the real deal  Apparently what happened is Kraft committed to Mayo and I don’t remember the timeline exactly - but Vrabel was unemployed at the same time Belichick was unemployed. They both were fired after the 2023 season.  Kraft hired Mayo. Who was kind of an obvious disaster. He probably already had the deal in place but I will give Kraft credit for not sleeping. With Vrabel out there for 2025 he made the move he needed to make and if it hurt Mayo’s feelings then oh well.  I guess you can tell I am not fond of Kraft but that was a really savvy move. At his age, pretty good. Still has it.
    • It’s going to feel like a home game for the bills. There are so many of their fans that live down here now, and many of them have never seen Allen play in person since their last visit was 8 years ago. It didn’t matter for the cowboys game, but it might here. I think we likely lose a close one. Probably a questionable flag or two that doesn’t go our way. X factor for Buffalo will be Kincaid and Knox. If we do win it’s because we get ahead and play keep away from Allen. FYI- I have many friends who are Bills fans that are fed up with Beane who we all revere and think is the one that got away. They feel like he was great to land Josh but has done a terrible job of building around him (especially at WR) and rely on him to become super man to win- sounds kind of familiar, like the last time we had a franchise QB.
    • I always thought of him as an uptight military family dude, didn't know he needs to wash that mouth out with soap lol.
