I was wrong about Oher

I admit that PFF's grading generally confuses and irritates me, but I like this quote. I admit that never in my wildest dreams did I expect Oher to play as well as he has.

" – Possibly the biggest surprise this year for the Panthers offense wasn’t Newton’s breakout season, as he’s had stretches of high quality football in the past. No, it’s the fact that they somehow got Michael Oher (+3.4) to perform like a competent left tackle in pass protection. Newton’s blindside protector hadn’t had a positive pass blocking grade since his rookie year of 2009, and even then, it came mostly at right tackle. This year, he finished with a +7.5 pass blocking grade, the 11th best in the NFL, and on Sunday, he didn’t allow a single pressure. He still has his struggles in run blocking, but the Panthers couldn’t be happier with his performance after trudging through a season with Byron Bell a year ago. "

Don't feel bad, a lot of folks didn't think he'd do well. I hoped he would, and hoped was the right word because I sure couldn't say it with any confidence at the time. That Gettleman guy, he really knows his stuff, huh?

Yeah Oher has been a pleasant surprise. I'm really worried about Remmers in the playoffs though. Hopefully he can put up a great performance. Last Seattle game Remmers was directly responsible for an int.

I wonder is there a chance Daryl Williams could step in.

Hopefully, two (or one intense) week of preparation can cure all ills? LOL

    • Everybody made too much of that. The CBA and the 17 game schedule is what kills the cohesion we see in teams across the league in the opening games.  You decide, look at your depth and make informed decisions there or you get a an extra quarter or whatever two quarters with your ones.  Teams that are set don’t have those openings as much down the roster to evaluate but that ain’t everybody. It is a quandary. I think they need that 4th preseason game back. But as I said, I don’t lay that as the excuse for Bryce to come out looking like he does to start seasons. He has an entire camp.
    • Hey I said the 1pm west coast team, I said the up down up down and we were due for the up week.  You can’t know what is going to happen. There was a guy that detailed why the league would engineer a Panthers win to bring LA Rams back to the pack in conference standings.  Who really knows, and how much real belief do you have when citing these things? I generally have as much as my superstition allows. It rarely rises to an emotional experience. Usually it is more analytical. In terms of interest. When crazy poo happens and we win a game like today I for sure enjoy it.  I mean you have to think about it, how many times do you connect 2 4th and short situations for TDs? Who does that? That is like the most embarrassing thing for the Rams’ defense lol. That never happens and should never happen.  Expecting it to happen might not be a good plan. But it was pretty great
