So, I Found The Reporter That Tried To Start A Controversy With Cam

Yes, he was. It is a reporter's job to get down to the bottom of things rather you or anyone else likes it or not. If you make a statement, it's not unheard of for someone to ask you to "back it up" or elaborate.

I am not going to assume that Sullivan meant by Cam's comments, but even if he did, there are plenty of people across this country who may not have known what Cam meant, so asking him to elaborate was not out of order.

We can just agree to disagree.

Well, when he says "back it up" to the man and then later claims he asked him to "ellaborate"

That is a bit disingenuous.

"Back it up" is a hostile term used in debates.

I  disagree wholeheartedly that "back it up" is a hostile term. I also disagree that debates have to be "hostile" in nature.

He was saying and asking anything he could think of to try to get Cam to say something that'll make headlines. That's what his job is, selling stories. Cam doesn't have to "back it up" and he didn't. That doesn't mean the guy isn't allowed to ask him to back it up if he thinks that'll warrant a response from Cam that people will be interested in hearing. This whole thing is a non-story. "Reporter trying to do job, NFL player won't budge" is really all it is and it happens all the time with media.

He lied about what he said to Cam.

This isn't difficult.

If you don't think asking Cam Newton to "Back it up" on a question of race rather than "ellaborate" will get a different reaction, I can't help you. You lack social awareness.

Like I said, I have no problem with him asking Cam to back it up. The problem is he described Cam's reaction to very different language. That is bad reporting. There is no argument to be made otherwise.

You're getting worked up over nothing. Just because he didn't write in his story "I asked Cam to 'back it up'" and wrote "elaborate" instead... It's a word that people can interpret differently.

I lack social awareness? That's a first. LOL

Cam - “I don’t even want to touch on the topic of black quarterback, because I think this game is bigger than black, white or even green. So I think we limit ourselves when we just label ourselves just black, this, that and the third. I wanted to bring awareness because of that, but yet I don’t think I should be labeled just a black quarterback, because it’s bigger things in this sport that need to be accomplished.”

Reporter: "Why don't you want to elaborate on it?"

The reporter literally asked why Cam didn't want to elaborate on his comments from before. This "controversy" is a total joke.

    • Yeah, honestly being a long-term backup is at least as much about being a good lockerroom presence and accepting your role as a supporting piece and not being a greasy wheel as much as it does about ability. Backup QB requires a completely different mindset than the starter and some guys just can't make that switch. It doesn't make them bad guys or locker room cancers or anything like that, it just makes them not what you're looking for in a long-term backup. You bring in that type of guy to compete. You don't bring in that type of guy if you're not looking for competition.
    • Im saying its Tar Heel fans who would do that. I root for all Panthers to succeed regardless but college affiliation means zero to me
    • We have some good pieces.  Enough to be competitive week to week.  Coaching seems to be improving but they’ve made it much harder on themselves than needed.  There are very good reasons to be optimistic about the future. However, I don’t trust them yet.  Wins are odd looking and mostly ugly.  Our opponents have to have a bad day for us to hang with them.  A lot of that is because we still haven’t figured out the most important position and will continue until it’s solved. I think Morgan has done a nice job in both the draft and FA so far.  He’s getting better each day he’s in that position. As far as the players listed, I’m pretty much in agreement.  XL and Bryce are not performing the way they should at this point.  I will say XL could see more success in a vertical passing attack to better utilize his speed. And as always, Fug Tepper.
