Hunter Henry was the big surprise for me.  Even though he seems to be the top rated TE, in 4 of the 6 drafts I did (using the 6 different boards), I was able to get him in the 2nd round 3 times, and 3rd round once.

I can't believe in real life such a highly rated TE would fall that low in the 2nd.

On a lot of the boards he seems to be ranked from about 25 - 35.  Why would he fall down to 60???  Certainly there are teams out there that are in need of an excellent TE.  I know it's not sexy to pick a TE in the 1st round, but if other GMs really follow BPA, I'd have to think Henry will be gone long before we pick in the 2nd.

I really liked what I read about him.... sounds like a future star.

I had one (5 round) draft yesterday where I couldn't find any good defensive talent at our picks.  Ended up with ALL offense!  That would never happen in a real Panthers draft, but it was interesting:

30: G CODY WHITEHAIR  KANSAS STATE

62: TE HUNTER HENRY  ARKANSAS

94: C JACK ALLEN  MICHIGAN STATE

130: WR PHAROH COOPER  SOUTH CAROLINA

168: FB GLENN GRONKOWSKI  KANSAS STATE

This one isn't very realistic but it's fun imagining what our offense could look like.

1. Ezekiel Elliot, RB, Ohio St.

2. Hunter Henry, TE, Arkansas

3. Tyler Boyd, WR, Pittsburgh

4. Deiondre' Hall, CB, Northern Iowa

5. Fahn Cooper, OT, Ole Miss

7. D.J. Reader, DT, Clemson

heh, very similar to the one I just did (didn't look at this thread before I did it).  I'm guessing you used walterfootball's board too.  I didn't intend to go offense heavy, but that's where the value played out.

30: R1P30
RB EZEKIEL ELLIOTT
OHIO STATE
62: R2P31
TE HUNTER HENRY
ARKANSAS
94: R3P31
S KARL JOSPEH
WEST VIRGINIA
130: R4P31
WR PHAROH COOPER
SOUTH CAROLINA
168: R5P29
CB CYRUS JONES
ALABAMA

And my second draft of the night, using nfldraftgeek, pretty nice too.  Didn't really know who to pick in the 5th, though.  So I went with more competition at OT.

30: R1P30
DE KEVIN DODD
CLEMSON
62: R2P31
WR WILL FULLER
NOTRE DAME
94: R3P31
CB CYRUS JONES
ALABAMA
130: R4P31
OT WILLIE BEAVERS
WESTERN KENTUCKY
168: R5P29
OT REES ODHIAMBO
BOISE STATE

Yeah,  Walter Football. Weird though,  doesn't seem like the rankings are that different,  the other sim teams just don't pick offensive players.  I would love Joseph in the 4th.

And my second one, using Fanspeak's.  Not sure which I like better.  Probably this one, I don't see how Elliot is available to us at #30 so often.  In this draft he went the pick before ours:

30: R1P30
DE KEVIN DODD
CLEMSON
62: R2P31
TE HUNTER HENRY
ARKANSAS
94: R3P31
WR PHAROH COOPER
SOUTH CAROLINA
130: R4P31

Love this one, think it hits a ton of needs.  A potential probowl TE in the 2nd, our biggest need and potential stud at DE in the first, a playmaking slot WR in the 3rd, a solid nickel slot corner in the 4th.

  • 2 weeks later...

So, I did a new 5 round draft at Fanspeak today using the updated Fanspeak big board.

Virtually impossible to get a DE.  They flew off the board.  But it was a really interesting draft, especially the choices we'd have at round 2.

Here are the top 10 or so players who were available in each round.  Who would you pick in each case?  I'll post who I picked in the following comment

Reed or Washington both could be possibilities, though neither really grabs my interest.  Personally would never pick Nkemdiche.  Whitehair also seems like a good prospect.

This was the round I found really interesting / challenging / exciting.    I could take 3 or 4 of these guys easily.  Doctson, Butler, Henry, Allen...  TOUGH CHOICE.

Since I didn't take Henry in round 2, I went with Vannett in round 3.  But maybe a CB or DT here would work too.

Lots of CBs on the board, but quite a few of them seem "Meh".  Deiondre' Hall interested me, however.  Hassan Ridgeway could also be an option if we were still wanting a DT.

Round 5

154 WR  KOLBY LISTENBEE - TCU
158 WR  NELSON SPRUCE - COLORADO
164 WR  JORDAN PAYTON - UCLA
166 CB  FABIAN MOREAU - UCLA
167 WR  THOMAS DUARTE - UCLA
168 OT  JOE HAEG - NORTH DAKOTA STATE

170 FB  GLENN GRONKOWSKI - KANSAS STATE
171 C  AUSTIN BLYTHE - IOWA
172 S  ELIJAH SHUMATE - NOTRE DAME

If I hadn't gone with an OT in round 1, I might have taken Joe Haeg here.  Given that we are kinda in the market for a FB and they are hard to find, I thought we should give Baby Gronk a shot.  I mean seriously, the thought of a having a Gronk on the Panthers is pretty fun, even if he's not as good as Rob... worth a shot in the 5th.

I also just did a new mock with Fanspeak's board (the only one updated in March).  The result was a bit of a dream draft, in my opinion:

30: R1P30
DT ROBERT NKEMDICHE
OLE MISS
62: R2P31
WR STERLING SHEPARD
OKLAHOMA
94: R3P31
TE AUSTIN HOOPER
STANFORD
130: R4P31
CB CYRUS JONES
ALABAMA
168: R5P29
DE BRONSON KAUFUSI
BRIGHAM YOUNG

If Nkemdiche were to fall to us, I think he'd be a great pick.  He seems quick enough in the videos I watched to even let him play DE for us, just a really big DE.  If he could slim down 10 lbs, even better.  Either way, he'd be a great pick I think.  Shepard is my new 2nd round crush.  Hooper looks like a really good player and just a hair under Henry as my favorite TE in the draft.  Slot CB in the 4th with good potential at that position.  And Kaufusi is a guy I think is a 2nd, MAYBE 3rd round pick and we get him in the 5th.  To summarize, that's two DL, two pass catchers and a slot CB.  Only need that doesn't address is the possibility of need on OL, but if Daryl Williams stays healthy and lives up to what we think his potential is, I don't see OL as a huge need for a couple years at least.
