Sure as a SS, not OLB. He's undersized. Can he play? Hell yea but still undersized. We were just in the SB guys. We were 17-1 before the SB. We're a couple pieces away from winning it all. We got a lot of guys coming back. Why are we thinking about finding replacements already???? How about adding the missing pieces.

this is the opposite of Gettleman's philosophy

Not DT class. A damn weak draft overall. Weakest I've seen since I started watching football.

Ah. I agree with you somewhat. I think it's a squarely below average class, but not the worst I've ever seen. Very good DTs and LBs prop it up a bit, but not too much of anything else. No real star power at the top either.

No way in hell, this class is loaded in spots. Probably bad in overall depth, but the top 30 picks of the draft seem loaded to me.

Even BPA accounts for team needs. For example, we're not drafting a QB early even if he is the highest ranked player on our board.

It's never straight BPA. It's need and position-adjusted BPA. Always has been and always will be.

QB is the only positon not included when you have the league MVP calling the shots.

If Dave's BPA is an RB or LB, that's what we're doing.

RB can even be viewed as a position of need with Stewart's cut point quickly approaching and no sure bellcow back on the roster to replace him. Its not much, but I'd be VERY shocked if we spend an early round selection on a linebacker.

Personnel absolutely matters. We play base against 12 and 21 personnel and sub packages against 11, 10 or empty sets which is the standard. We are in sub 60-70% of the time which is dictated by the opposing offenses personnel and there was zero evidence that we were using Shaq as a LB against 11 personnel rather than subbing in a nickel which you claim.

Also, that this is his first year playing LB is a myth. He was a full time LB in college. He played one game as a safety due to injury and he played a kind of hybrid role when he was a freshman. His sophomore and junior years he was a WLB save a game or two at RB and S due to injuries.

It matters to a certain extent, some teams can run base packages the entire game if they have the personnel to do so. I might need to go back and watch a few more games but I have seen Shaq cover the slot in our base package a couple of times throughout this season. Also it's not a myth, this season was Shaq first season actually playing just one position which he fully played OLB. He played OLB, RB, and only safety in the spring when he was at Washington. At the end of the day he still is  rookie and i'm a firm believer you will see a lot more of base 4-3 next season like Ron wants.
