Bene to compete for corner, not nickel

weren't we concerned last off season because we though Bene was a better outside corner than a nickel?

Yes and it was a recurring theme throughout the beginning of the season when he struggled in the slot relative to what he did outside at the end of 2014.

I wouldn't mind this move at all. When Bene played on the outside he played better then he plays in the slot so I don't mind seeing him play more on the outside. Also i would look for a guy like Casey Hayward in free agency. He could be a steal and come cheap for us he really played well in the slot for Green Bay.

Posted the following comment on the Ron Presser thread, but it's better here, so I'm reposting it.

Good news.  I really liked Bene on the outside.  Thought he played better there than nickel from what little my own eyes told me.

Question:  Do you generally want more height in an outside guy than a nickel?   Quite a few of the promising corners that potentially might fall to us in the draft are somewhat shorter (5'9 - 5'11).  Not a lot of big guys that we're likely to get picking at #30 / #31 I'm wondering if that could be a factor influencing this decision.

we WILL NOT be drafting a corner first or second round. DG made it clear Dline is way more important than corner. RUSH THE PASSER, STOP THE RUN, RUN THE BALL

    • Through 2 games cltfc has 12 shot attempts. Opponents 23 shots on target. Attack sucks, Defense definitely sucks. Kahlina is the only reason they haven't given up 14 goals in two games.
    • I met a few times--never liked him. I figured he might have had a bad day--but then realized that he must have a lot of bad days. Once he raised his voice at my son because my son did not understand a question when SS was signing his jersey.  I wanted the jersey to represent his encounter with a Panther great, not some small man with a bad attitude.  I told me son, "Forget it.  He was asking you what your name is (My son was about 7 and told me that he thought Smitty was going to write (my son's) name on the jersey.  He said "Dad, I thought he was supposed to write HIS name on the jersey, not mine."  I said, "He was personalizing it, writing it to you--like a birthday card."  He is now grown, and he has a steve smith Jersey that is framed and matted.  He keeps it is his closet.  I asked him, "Why not have that out on your wall?"  He said, "All I remember is an A-hole scribbled on my shirt.  I don't remember a legend or hero.  But he had a Jake Delhomme Jersey on his wall.  "Jake was great.  I will always remember that."  (Jake stayed and talked to us for about 5 minutes or more--GREAT guy.)
    • Is it possible for someone to regress in maturity as they age or has Steve really just been a jerk his entire life?
