Very nice piece posted by David Newton at ESPN who caught up with TD at Josh's Charity Hoops event in Charlotte last Friday night.   Excellent commentary by TD on several topics of interest.  Best Panthers-related piece that you'll read all week....

The more than 40 stitches on the right forearm of Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis barely are visible.  The swelling that made the forearm resemble a football after Davis played through the injury with a cast in Super Bowl 50 is gone.

Davis already is back in the weight room, lifting what he can, with the arm that was surgically repaired the day after it was broken in the NFC Championship Game.

“I’m a quick healer," Davis said.

I caught up with Davis on Friday night at cornerback Josh Norman's celebrity charity basketball game. Davis coached against Norman’s team, which won in overtime thanks to late heroics by the host.

Here’s what Davis had to say on several subjects:

Q: What does it mean that management is working to keep Norman with the franchise tag expected to be used and ultimately a long-term deal?

Davis: “Josh is a huge part of this team. He’s a huge part of what we do. As players, he’s our brother. We definitely want him to be a part of us moving forward. Josh has earned everything he’s about to get, and I couldn’t be more proud of him."

Q: Did you speak to general manager Dave Gettleman on Norman’s behalf like you have for other players in the past?

Davis: “We don’t have to do that for Josh, because management feels the same way about Josh as we do. They want him around here. Mr. Gettleman has voiced that. Coach [Ron] Rivera has voiced that. It’s all about getting the numbers in the right place."

[...]

Q: Have you been keeping up with what’s happening at the NFL combine in Indianapolis?

Davis: “My TV [has been] locked in on NFL Network, watching the younger guys going through it."

Q: Anybody from Georgia, your alma mater, that caught you eye?

Davis: “I was extremely excited to see [running back] Keith Marshall put up the numbers he did. The guy ran a 4.29 [40-yard dash] and put up some ridiculous numbers on the bench press and the vertical. Just knowing Keith is a guy that has been battling with injuries, fought through an ACL, and now he’s back to full strength, it was exciting to me."

Q: How is the arm doing?

Davis: “It’s a 6-8 week healing process. I’m going through it right now, but I’m also starting back working out. We’re behind everybody else in that sense. I look at Instagram to see a lot of other guys working out and I really can’t stand it. I know we were told to take some time off, rest your bodies up. For me I can’t sit down a long time. It’s right back at it, right back to work. I can do some things with it. I can’t lift a whole lot of heavy weights. I’m just taking advantage of what I can do with it right now."

I love some TD.  Just a great dude!  I hope all of our young guys are paying attention to his greatness.

I do think that the Panthers get something done with Norman in the 11th hour.  If not, he rides the tag while they get something done.
