I would say no to Whitner, he doesn't fit with the culture of the team.

And why is that?

He is a good, no-nonsense football player that is active in the community. I know that he was part of the no bullying campaign, and he spoke up about accepting gays in the NFL.

Exactly. We forced Martin to retire and took Michael Sam completely off our draft board. Whitner wouldn't fit here.

He was arrested a few years ago...

Thanks, I didn't know.

To be fair though, you're talking a few days over seven years ago. He also had a noncriminal problem 10 years ago with harassing his then girlfriend.

True but that may keep him off of the Panthers roster. Maybe if one of he Vets campaign for him it might happen. He would be a good fit on the field for us though.

The Patriots have released oft-injured defensive lineman Dominique Easley. Easley was a 2014 first round pick. Story to come…

Hmm...interesting!!! DG will take a look!!

I think Bullard would be an awesome choice in the draft bc he can slide inside to 3 tech but can slide to the outside a decent amount.  Willie Young is another.

If I'm remembering correctly, I believe Bullard is from NC so I'm guessing he would be thrilled if we picked him.  I guess at this point we just have to see how the draft goes.  In Gettleman we trust, I was furious the year we drafted Star in the first round and KK Short in the second, but it turned out to be a very solid move.  If this draft is anything like Gettleman's past few years, he'll end up drafting someone we've never heard of which has frustrated me in the past but looking back at it he's earned the benefit of the doubt.  Selfishly, I'm hoping we don't draft an OL in the first round.  I know that's a big need and would be a smart move but I'd rather have a db or skill position player,

If it were up to me, I'd take a safety in the first round seeing as it's kind of been a revolving door back there.  I loved Mike Mitchell when he was with us, also a big fan of Coleman.  To a lesser extent Roman Harper and Thomas DeCoud were decent not great.  I just think it would be nice to lock down a big time safety in the first round and not having to scramble to find veterans like we have in the past.  I love the Cravens kid for USC because he hits like a Mack truck, however it seems he might end up being a little too slow to play safety and in that case we'd basically Be getting a Shaq Thompson 2.0 (not that that's bad thing as Shaq had a much better rookie year than I thought he would.  While I think the safety and OL positions is our biggest need, neither of them are bad just not great.

With that being said there's no true glaring weaknesses on the roster which puts in a great place to draft BPA which we all know Gettleman loves.  And while DG has had great 1st round picks he's also gotten some great value out of players drafted late and undrafted free agents.  I wouldn't trade our scouting department and/or front office for any one else's.  Love what we've been doing by avoiding big name overpriced free agents and building from within and sprinkling in some season vets to show the younger guys the right.  I feel like our foundation is build on flames instead of flash and we will be perennial Super Bowl contenders for years to come.

*apologize for the long post, got a little distracted, the draft is one of my favorite sporting events.  Can't wait to see who we end up with

Also selfishly hoping we can get Keith Marshall out of UGA because I played with him in high school.  He's great on the field and off, posted some crazy combine #'s including being the fastest player there and leading all RB's in reps on the bench. His injuries definitely killed his college career but he has a lot of promise and we all know speed is something that can't be taught.

I like him too but we kind of already have a runningback with injury issues so I'm not betting on it.

    • How we weren't willing to roll the dice on Wilson but were on Brooks remains a mystery.

    • Wide Receiver: Tetairoa McMillan, Carolina Panthers – 85.3 One of the more shocking developments of the 2025 NFL season has been the Carolina Panthers’ ascension to the top of the NFC South, which they achieved with Sunday’s win over the Buccaneers. Perhaps nobody has made a bigger difference than former eighth overall pick Tetairoa McMillan, who continued to be a steady presence in the Panthers’ offense. McMillan caught six passes for 73 yards and a touchdown in the win Tight End: Mitchell Evans, Carolina Panthers – 91.1 Evans only saw the field for 16 snaps, but he was efficient in his limited playing time. He caught all three of his targets for 23 yards on just six receiving snaps while also grading well in pass protection (72.2 grade) and as a run-blocker (68.4) Edge Defender: Nic Scourton, Carolina Panthers – 77.9 The former second-rounder out of Texas A&M has been a force along the Panthers’ defensive line, and he was a key contributor in Carolina’s huge win over the Buccaneers. Scourton recorded two stops as a run-defender and added another while in coverage. Scourton also tallied his sixth sack of the year while contributing another pressure to the mix Safety: Lathan Ransom, Carolina Panthers – 75.7 Another Carolina Panther on this week’s list, Ransom has typically been stronger in run defense — he carries an 85.2 grade in that field on the season. But Sunday against the Buccaneers was his best day in coverage. Ransom intercepted his only target, which wound up being the game-winner that put the Panthers in the driver’s seat in the NFC South
