The offensive tackle spots

Remmers is somehow a fan favorite now, but I have to think we might be looking to the draft for a better RT. Williams doesn't appear to be good at pass blocking, but the jury is still out. Replacing Oher is unlikely in my opinion, not because he's great, but because acquiring a LT better than Oher would be very expensive.

What makes you think that Daryl Williams struggles at pass protection? There has been absolutely nothing to suggest that so far in the limited action that he has gotten.

"Williams isn’t just a run-blocker, though.  College Football Focuscharted his 399 pass-blocking snaps last season and found that he allowed zero sacks, one quarterback hit and just nine hurries.  That’s a pass-blocking efficiency rating of 98.1, good for ninth in the class.

You can’t directly compare stats between college and the pros like this, but for comparison, Remmers had a PBE rating of 97.9 last season, Chandler was at 94.0, the departed Byron Bell was at 92.7 and new free-agent acquisition Michael Oher was at 92.8.  Obviously, blocking NFL pass-rushers is significantly more difficult than handling the best of the Big 12, but it’s nice to see that Williams kept his quarterback clean."  http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2454005-an-in-depth-look-at-carolina-panthers-most-intriguing-selection-daryl-williams

I'd say worrying about Williams as a pass blocker is premature at the least.

True but Oher would be expensive next year too if he performs equal or better than last year.  It'd still give a 2nd for Joe Thomas, move Oher to the right, and have Remmers/Williams as depth.  We'd obviously have the best OL in football and some options next year.  Not sure if Cleveland bites but they're purging all high priced vets so it'd be worth letting them know the deal is on the table IMO.

Gettleman has mentioned before how important it is to protect the quarterback. Heading up to the superbowl, i knew we were the better team and that the game was ours to lose.  I actually told several people before the game, that the ONE thing i was worried about was Von Miller causing game changing sacks and forced fumbles.  I knew we were the better team, and thats exactly how teams lose to teams that they are better than. Heading into that game, i  couldnt help but think about the ONE other game we lost...and how Remmers looked SEVERELY over matched trying to block Vic Beasley.  It was obvious that day that Remmers absolutely couldnt handle him..and I thought that if he struggled that badly against Beasley, there was good reason to worry about what would happen vs. Von Miller.. Lo and behold.. When you look at the two games we lost, its hard not to to look at Remmers as one of the weak links in those games..  In a league where you always need to get better, its hard not to think about him when thinking about how to solidify this team.

Remmers is servicable...and in the NFL, that means they are always looking to replace you..but we should be happy that Remmers is servicable..because that means we can continue with our philosophy of building the team for the future, so that we can stay competitive every year. We are good at finding quality lower level talent, so we dont have to mortgage our future for the sake of getting one player.  Thats what I believe has gotten us to this point.

Would love for this to happen....but not sure DG's philosophy on trading for players for high draft picks.

In no fuging way will OT be a top priority in our draft. We like Oher, Gettleman already said Remmers didn't lose his job and we are grooming Williams....you only got 53 the roster guys. That leaves only one spot for an OT. Look for an athletic project in late rounds for a Focault replacement.

Jason Spriggs is a very athletic LT that will be there at 30. He's not ready to start today, but after a season behind Oher and working with House to improve his strength and Matsko to improve his technique , and he has a huge ceiling. I know that a lot depends on the 29 teams picking before us, and who is available but I would approve of this pick.
