Any of you Huddlers ever made your own boiled peanuts?

Ok, so I have a Bayou Classic set up I use for different things, turkey fryer for Thanksgiving, chicken wings for game days and the occasional low country boil. This weekend I want to try my hand in the unknown.

What I now want to do is task myself with the painful and rewarding job of boiling peanuts in it. I plan on doing maybe five pounds as I will be sharing and freezing some for a future snack. I want them cajun/spicy style. I recently had some that just blew my socks off and I want to replicate what I had. However, I have no idea what ingredients were being used. I do know, crushed red pepper was among them. Delicious!

I'm not even a novice at this procedure and it will be my first time. I have done some cursory research and have a basic idea of the ingredients I will be using and the process in which I will be enduring. I wanted to reach out to any fellow huddlers that may have experience with this.

Anyone? Talk to me.

yes and I use that old bay seasoning and toss the peanuts in a crock pot

Wait, crock pot? How long they gotta cook? On high or low?

You're all useless.

For five lbs, just use a big pot on the stove. Easier to regulate the heat. Lots of salt, old bay, and a little cayenne.

On a side note, I found a place to buy chicken skin in bulk today.

Prepare the water...few gallons, cayenne, pepper flakes, salt, and cajun seasoning.

Soak peanuts for a couple hours in the water before boiling, it will cut down the time a little so you don't waste gas.

Boil for 2.5-4 hours depending on how you like them done.

Eat.

P.S. I have thrown all kinds of stuff in the water while they cook, from onions to carrots for some sweetness.  Almost hard to mess them up to be honest.

    • Not totally inaccurate, haha Except that kid wasn't as excited as I was.  I was yelling louder, and more, and running around the room in circles until I almost passed out from exhausting and was trying to catch my breath for a good 10 minutes because I'm way too old to be doing that, LOLOL Oh, and I tweaked a muscle in my shoulder from all the punching the air I was doing too. For as awesome as that pick was for me, it really screwed me up for a few days between my shoulder and lost voice (Wrexham securing back-to-back-to-back promotions Saturday afternoon contributed to that though too).
    • Getting Pierce jr isn’t forfeiting the pick they just had 2 1sts this year.
    • Full disclosure and the real reason.... I'll be seeing my Nephew in basically one month from today, and while I've gotten him stuff from my other teams the past year, I hadn't been willing to saddle him with Panthers stuff yet, that's now changed lol. So if the jersey would get to me before I see him, I'd get that and him his first Panthers onesie/shirt so I can get a picture of us together in them. If it wouldn't get to me by then, I'd just wait to get the one I prefer.  So yea, my rush is really just about trying to get a picture of myself in it with my Nephew in Panthers gear too.
