woodworking resources

i'm building an RPG prop for a project. i'm doing most of it with pvc pipe and some metal fittings, but the base piece is supposed to be wood. i'd like to create the replica as faithfully as possible, so i've developed exact dimensions. the trouble is i can't find a piece of wood that will pass for what i need, and since i don't own a lathe i can't just pop a rough piece in and trim it down myself.

does anyone know of resources to either find specialized wood stock or a crafter who i can pay to do a quick cut for me?

here's what i'm building:

and here's what i need:

sixteen-inch piece of hard or soft wood 2.75" at the largest diameter and 2 inches at the smallest with a beveled slope in the middle. rough cut is fine since i can sand and finish it myself. where should i go?

Is that an RPG-7?

yep, my choices are to buy a plastic one from hong kong for $300, buy an inert one from a surplus outlet for $1000, or build my own for $50. easy choice even though i really fuging want to buy the real thing and then mount it on the wall in my office.

Seems to me you could find and an old wooden furniture leg/table leg.....

this was my initial thought, but after wandering every store in town i couldn't find anything that worked, either in shape or in diameter.

need that transition to be as accurate as possible, which is the main holdup

ahhhh... true... I would legit look for an old wooden bat... The diameter is already close, and you could sand down the transition part to be pretty damn accurate... You'd only need a saw and some sandpaper...

I've never really used a lathe too much, and they can be damned dangerous... but you could turn this shape pretty easily if you had to. You might be able to find someone with the ability and a lathe to do it relatively cheap. Let them know what it is for, and supply the wood, and it might cost nothing. Start asking around some of those reenactment people and you might hit payday.

    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
    • Didn’t get around to watching this one but looks like Pistons played their starters and actually tried…? Unlucky that they sit vs Magic, etc and try vs us. Hopefully we can beat the Heat and then Magic or 6ers with no Embiid. BUT if not, the NBA really should give us the lottery win this year like they did Mavs last year. Another high pick could be our final missing piece and have us as legit top contenders next year and going forward if we’re healthy. Or trade it for a Giannis type
