With the 8th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers select....

Give the kid time, geez... he's only played in 2 real NFL games in his whole life. It might take a little getting used to

I agree with you. Some of these folks are truly insane. Defensive Ends usually take a little while to come into their own. Look at Mario Williams progression from his first to his second season. Went from 4 sacks in season one to one of the league leaders in season two. Strahan had 5 1/2 sacks in his first two years. Bruce Smith had 6 sacks. Its irrational to expect any newly drafted defensive end to come in and have an immediate impact.

Probably 99.9% of Panther fans hope the kid develops into a Pro Bowler. It's giving up a future #1 to select Brown in the 2nd round that chafes their ball sacks.

31 out of 32 GM obviously felt he has second round talent.

To come into there own yes..but all we are asking him to do..is rush off the edge..you can do that from day 1..and E.Brown so far is not looking like a first round edge rusher

This fact is probably the most depressing part of the 0-2 start for me. We have so many holes to fill on this team (QB, playmaker opposite Smith, DT, S) and no 1st rounder for next year. This pick could really kill us into the future.

While we have people to build around (Willy, Stewart, Smith, Beason, T Davis, Pepp) the lack of depth is killing us at other positions and on special teams

You may be right, but I prefer to wait a year or two to assess any draft move.

Remember all the people that howled when Mario Williams was selected instead of Reggie "3 yards per carry" Bush and Vince whats his name. They howled for a year, but by the second year, they were apologizing.

There was no doubt by any GM in football that Williams was a top 1st round talent. Hopefully Hurney is smarter than everyone else.

Mortgaging the future was one of the things that led to the demise of Dom Capers (two 1st round picks for Sean Gilbert). Gilbert was actually a pretty good player.....but not worth what the Panthers had to give up to get him. Brown may end being a great player some day, but the Panthers had other needs for 2009 and definitely needed a 1st round pick in 2010.

Rep if it was enabled.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
