Do you live subsistence-only and give everything else you earn over and above that to "good causes"?

Or do you save, invest, try to build an inheritance for your children, and sometimes buy nice things that you don't really need?

Because you do realize there are many "meaningful things" that can use the money you are not actively using or the money that you are wasting on "nice things" for yourself and your family right?

"Oh but I'm different!  I donate time and money to charities!"

So do I.  And so does the NFL.  And so does the Carolina Panthers organization.  And so does Jerry Richardson.  And so does Ron Rivera.  Cam Newton.  Thomas Davis.  etc.

Just think how many needy children could be helped with the money Cam Newton has been spending on fancy cars, amirite?

I wouldn't compare an individual's expenditures with those of a business, which should be above frivolities such as jewelry for coming in second place.

tiger won this thread we can go ahead and close it now

Personally I loved the whole treating a business like it isn't made up of individuals money...oh and  "financing my ideology is other peoples responsibility, now excuse me the new Prius model is out and I must have it."

His argument consists of "How dare you suggest they donate/invest money instead of spending it on loser jewelry!? Filthy liberal! You don't understand competitors!" He sounds like a caveman.

As for your generalization, I don't even own a car. It's wonderful!

I agree with him.  For the NFL?  Completely dumb.  Moneyball is one of my favorite movies, and the GM there constantly said "nothing matters until you win the very last game of the year".  And he's right.  Second place is no accomplishment, it's nothing to celebrate.  The Panthers had a good season but I'll be pissed if they feel accomplished in any way.  They played scared in the most important game of their lives, and I hope they remember that all offseason.  Not "feeling good" for not quite being good enough.

How is it loser jewelry?  Were we not the champions of the NFC?

The champs of the NFC vs the Champs of the AFC.....go at it for the Lombardi.

It's really gonna piss some people off when they hear the Champs of the AFC and the Champs of the NFC also get a shiny trophy to let everyone know they are the champs of their respective conference.

Why is the idea of conference champ rings such a big deal right now?

Because some folks just have to have something to piss and moan about.

I'm not a fan of participation trophies, but people trying to be edgy with the whole 'everything the team did is worthless if they didn't win it all' bit just wind up looking stupid.

I feel the same way about participation trophies, as you do.

..   I just think it's foolish to write off a conference championship ring just because it's not a SB ring.    To even make it to the big dance,  one has to climb the ranks of their own conference,  and beat the best teams their conference has to offer.                              I wonder if the people that utilize the Ricky Bobby logic of - "Duhhh if you're not first, you're last" realize just how retarded that logic is?

    • Rags lost again. All is right in the hockey world.
    • He’s responsible for two drafts classes. The first was one of the worst drafts I’ve ever seem. The second one is showing a ton of promise. I’m somewhere between skeptical and hopeful on Morgan.
    • I'm a big fan of Dan. His ability to find productive players deep in the draft will pay off.  I'm going to give him 1.5 draft classes right now, because I do think it's a little unfair to evaluate his first year when he got the job in January, especially when we went into that draft not having a first round pick.  XL and Brooks are still big time TBD players. Both still have incredibly high ceilings, but both have also given us legitimate reasons to have a lot of pause. Trevin Wallace, Chau Smith Wade and Jatavion Sanders have IMO outplayed their draft position early in their careers. That's a great thing. He also got Coker and Demani Richardson as UDFAs that year. Given the situation we were in, I really don't mind the gamble on the high ceiling guys. Still may work out, still may not, but if you made a checklist of ideal situation for an NFL GM to walk into, ours was near the bottom of that list.  Every single 2025 pick is contributing in some way. That typically doesn't happen. I am absolutely blown away by this draft class 6 games in. Even the best GM's miss on occasion, and we can't expect Dan to be 100% on drafts moving forward. Ryan Fitzgerald was an excellent find as well.  Comparing our last two drafts to the previous few is pretty shocking. Can you imagine this season without our Rookies? It would not be good. Additionally, this roster only has 6 players with more than 6 years of experience, and two of those are specialist.  The next step is equally important, and still very much TBD. We have to avoid Cap Chaos.
