The official camp sleepers thread....

Recommended Posts

Today is the day you predict your training camp sleepers.

To qualify as a sleeper, the player cannot have been on any NFL regular roster at any point in time.

I have listed mine here : http://www.carolinahuddle.com/2016/07/20/carolina-panthers-training-camp-sleepers/

But I want to know who yours are so I can keep an eye out next week.

I'm going with the same sleeper pick I had last year, defensive end Arthur Miley. Loved this guys story and work ethic last year. I'd like to know if he has made the leap needed to break out and make the roster. For those of you who don't remember:

Work ethic pays off for Mangham native Miley

One of those moments was in Tharp’s first game as Mangham head coach — on the road at eventual state runner-up OCS. Miley played both ways the whole game, and despite being on the verge of passing out from dehydration, refused to come off the field.

Mangham beat OCS that night 35-24.

“He knew like I did we couldn’t win that game without him,” Tharp said. “We literally carried him back to the field and pumped him full of water and he said, ‘coach I’m ready to go.’”

I almost hesitate to pick Sandland as a sleeper, since he's gotten some big thumbs up so far, but he is a 7th round pick. I'll go further out on the limb and pick another TE in Deaver. He may not make the roster this season, but I think he has potential to come off the PS down the road and contribute.

I'll go way out on the limb and pick Riggsbe at OT. He's not ready for game time yet, but he may improve to a depth worthy/backup role.

    • Rags lost again. All is right in the hockey world.
    • He’s responsible for two drafts classes. The first was one of the worst drafts I’ve ever seem. The second one is showing a ton of promise. I’m somewhere between skeptical and hopeful on Morgan.
    • I'm a big fan of Dan. His ability to find productive players deep in the draft will pay off.  I'm going to give him 1.5 draft classes right now, because I do think it's a little unfair to evaluate his first year when he got the job in January, especially when we went into that draft not having a first round pick.  XL and Brooks are still big time TBD players. Both still have incredibly high ceilings, but both have also given us legitimate reasons to have a lot of pause. Trevin Wallace, Chau Smith Wade and Jatavion Sanders have IMO outplayed their draft position early in their careers. That's a great thing. He also got Coker and Demani Richardson as UDFAs that year. Given the situation we were in, I really don't mind the gamble on the high ceiling guys. Still may work out, still may not, but if you made a checklist of ideal situation for an NFL GM to walk into, ours was near the bottom of that list.  Every single 2025 pick is contributing in some way. That typically doesn't happen. I am absolutely blown away by this draft class 6 games in. Even the best GM's miss on occasion, and we can't expect Dan to be 100% on drafts moving forward. Ryan Fitzgerald was an excellent find as well.  Comparing our last two drafts to the previous few is pretty shocking. Can you imagine this season without our Rookies? It would not be good. Additionally, this roster only has 6 players with more than 6 years of experience, and two of those are specialist.  The next step is equally important, and still very much TBD. We have to avoid Cap Chaos.
