NFL's Most Underrated: 32 teams, 32 players who deserve more props - CBSSports.com

Andrew Norwell G / Carolina Panthers: Trai Turner, the other guard, gets a lot of attention and rightfully so. He is a heck of a player. But Norwell, in his second season as a starter in 2015, isn't far behind. He plays with a nasty streak. There is a play from last season against Seattle where he got three blocks on one long run. Carolina has to be thrilled with their guards.

When will Norwell get his contract extension?, I hope before end of 2016 best highlights are around 0:50 mark.

Could have used that play against the 49ers.

This may be a few years down the road but is there any chance we can keep both Norwell and Turner? They both may be commanding huge pay days and I'm not sure paying 2 guards top-10 salaries for their position makes sense. It absolutely baffles me what G-man has done with our lines. He took our DL and flipped from a weakness into a strength almost immediately after drafting Star and KK. Although we haven't drafted high-round players on the OL, we have gotten gems from both guards and Oher has proved to be a substantial upgrade over Bell.

Turner and Norwell are up in 2017. I doubt Norwell goes to the pro-bowl this year just because of Kalil and Turner. I can't imagine all three. That said, I think only Turner gets a top 5 salary (likely $9M, only 1 guard in the league makes more than $8M) and Norwell gets something in the $5-6M range. Honestly, this is a better spot for us because guards don't make high end dollars compared to other positions and you can grab a guard in the 2nd/3rd round who's likely in the top 3-5 that year. I posted this elsewhere, but we'll have to make a decision on Short after 2017 (I think we definitely franchise him in 2017) and this is a case where Short $$$ = Turner $$ + Norwell $. I think I'd rather have Butler starting in place of Short (hopefully) and have Turner/Norwell as well. Maybe we can keep them all, but there are 9 DTs that make more than the #2 guard and we all know what the new ceiling is for DT.

I agree with your point if it comes down to it. Knowing who our 1st round-draft pick was this year, if we can lock up both guards for the price of 1 DT, I think we have to do it. With our LB's locked in for the foreseeable future I think it is more important to protect Cam then to keep a super-star DT. I wonder if an extension for one of the two guards by the beginning of the season is still in question? This could help lighten our load later on to retain all 3.

I like Norwell. I just don't see him as a pro bowl talent or big paycheck guy. He has all of the intangibles but he's not a physical specimen. If he was, he'd be a hall of famer. As it stands now he is a great JAG. You can't spend tons of money on offensive line in my opinion. Just keep stocking up on mid round picks. These guys get hurt frequently. Depth always comes into play. Norwell was even hurt in the Super Bowl. It created a lot of problems for us.

He is not a JAG , his gameplay improved  each season and dominated against the top defenses. It's when we had JAGs like Bell,Chandler ,Hangman.etc that Cam got injured and losses where piling up.

I don't think he is saying JAG, but a great JAG. If we needed to replace him, it likely wouldn't be as hard because Gs can be had much later in the draft and cheaper as FAs. That said, I don't think he'll make the pro-bowl* so I don't see him being too expensive to not resign. We have a lot of other positions we need to work on with our 1st, 2nd and 2 3rds (Norman) in 2017, such as RB, OT, C, DE and maybe S.

* If Norwell does make the pro-bowl, I think that means we have had another ridiculous season and got more pro-bowlers than last year.

Still low balling him, Norwell is a stud OG that has the ability to play at Yanda's level. The type of offensive system Panthers run you need a well rounded guard who excels in all areas, whether its zone runs, pulling, power, pass blocking ,etc it will be hard to find a OG that can be that multi facet unless you spend a high round pick.  Yes we are going to have pro-bowl interior OL , Norwell is similar to  Marshall Yanda while Trai is like Larry Allen.

Dominant interior trio

The success of the Panthers’ run game is not only due to their ball carriers, however. It helps having probably the league’s best interior trio. Between the guards in 2015, the Panthers have carried 71 times for 322 yards at 4.5 yards per carry with four scores. Their two guards, Trai Turner and Andrew Norwell, both rank in the top 11 at the position this season, with Turner being the No. 7 run-blocking guard in the league.

Carolina fans will hope that Andrew Norwell’s injury last night is not serious, because Chris Scott and Amini Silatolu are not at the same level. The standout of the Panthers’ line is C Ryan Kalil (93.9, PFF’s No. 1 center). Kalil’s 95.2 run blocking grade is also way out in front. Fernando Velasco is an adequate replacement (74.6 overall grade), but the sooner the Panthers get back the league’s best, the better.

It was telling that the Panthers struggled to get enough first downs to close out the game on MNF. The changes on the offensive line played a part in that. When everyone is healthy, Carolina owns one of the most physical ground attacks in football.

Bell and Chandler weren't even Jags. Hangman was at the end of the line, he was a decent JAG in his prime. Norwell fits what we do but our offensive line is not dominant. It never was. They just get the job done with our scheme.
