Quotes that stood out to me from John Fox's press conference today.

in no particular order:

- "we could have done better"

- "we've got what we've got"

- "that happens"

When asked: Are you prepared for Peppers to receive criticism, given the big contract he has?

- "Last week, everybody wanted to blame Jake. This week everybody wants to blame Julius. I don’t that’s the answer if that’s what you’re asking me."

also on peppers performance: "Like the rest of the team, good but not quite good enough"

What John Fox says in his PC is the last thing I'm worried about. If he gets fired, it will be because he can't win, not because he isn't entertaining enough or doesn't get mad enough and throw his players under the bus to the delight of the press and angry Panther fans.

who wants him to get mad? or throw anyone under the bus a simple no comment will do if he doesn't want to talk about something, instead pops out some BS non-answer. just how simple he is.

he did a little better with this one than usual but then the bar is kind of set low b/c of who we have had to deal with for so long.

parts that were ok, imo...

ON WHAT CAN BE DONE TO COUNTER TEAMS THAT GET THE FOOTBALL AWAY QUICKLY: You should be able to react to the ball fast as far as the pass route. At times we did that well and at times we didn't do it as well as we needed to. It's usually not one phase or it's not one person that wins and loses football games.

ON WHETHER THAT PLAY CHANGED THE MOMENTUM OF THE GAME: That play - not really. I thought the punt after it did.

ON THE BLOCKED PUNT: We were a little slow getting rid of the ball and we didn't protect very well. Their guy beat our guy.

ON WHETHER BEING SLOW GETTING RID OF THE BALL IS A PUNTER OR SNAPPER ISSUE: It wasn't the snapper. I thought we were a little slow getting the ball away.

ON WHETHER PUNTER JASON BAKER ROTATED THE FOOTBALL MORE THAN NORMAL PRIOR TO THE PUNT BLOCK: Again, the reality is we missed the block, and that happens.

ON WHETHER SPECIAL TEAMS ARE A CONCERN: Yeah. It goes back to learning a new defense. You've got to execute. A couple of times as far as our kickoff coverage we didn't execute as well as we needed to. They were able to get it out to our 39. I think another time, to start the third quarter, out to our 41. Again, it's a combination of things - the kick, the coverage - and we didn't execute as well as they did.

ON WHETHER SPECIAL-TEAMS PROBLEMS ARE BECAUSE OF HAVING SO MANY NEW PLAYERS OUT THERE: It is what it is. I'm not going to sit here and try to make excuses, but the reality is yes.

It's just a game man. He does these PC's because he has to, not because he wants to. Fox sees it as his duty to give his opponents absolutely nothing that they could possibly use against him. He has to fill the time somehow though, so he has mastered the art of coachspeak. That's all it is.

    • Apparently CSW lost his starting job to Thornton last year. If he can stay healthy I bet Thornton keeps that NB position.
    • I member him staying after practices with only to see he was wearing heavy weight vest, one of his trademarks. He also put in 10 years, right? People forget he was the ST stud that called the snap and made sure everyone lined up right. He was one of the "glue" guys that bought his "lunch pail" to work.... He was a willing solider, all teams need a couple of them. He blocked for sooo many panthers RBs- Davis, lane, Williams, foster, goings and when there was huge injuries he took over the starter duties and had a couple 100 yard games. If you followed hoover, he took the perfect RB path cause he was just a slow heavy one himself....
    • Walker likely depends on a couple of things. What exactly did Dan promise him, to start with.  How much other interest he actually had for a starter job at high pay is another question. It isn’t outside the realm of possibility that he could stay on as a swing tackle waiting to take Moton’s spot when it opens.    I can’t get myself to consider Icky as a viable anything until we see him back on the field.     Hunt seems to be a team player and good guy but I don’t think he is worth what he is being paid. I have him tentatively earmarked for cap causality in the near future.
