Courtney Rivera Speaking Out Against Officiating

That's just a sorry excuse. Greg Olsen and Thomas Davis criticized the officiating last night.

I like the way Ron handled it.  He took the high road and brushed it off, so that his team can move forward and hopefully keep them from feeling sorry for themselves.  All you can do now is show the league the tape and move forward.  He's made comments in the past about how he wishes Cam got protected more, and you saw last night how that does nothing.

I think we have all seen why talking to the media doesnt solve problems but instead creates distractions.  The media cant help us.  We have to talk to the people who matter.  And the team needs to move on.

He handled it the wrong way. Continuing to brush Cam being headhunted under the rug is not going to solve anything. He will continue to be abused on the field because Rivera won't speak out on it. I hope he says something about it today.

Plus he gets fined if he just mouths off.

Rivera can complain about the refs in private all he wants, but embarrassing the league in public makes them pissy.

Yeah, and if they get pissy they may take it out on Cam and not protect him.

Oh, wait...

I mean, for the first time, the media is actually on Cam's side. Why isn't the NFL caving? If this were Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, etc, Goodell and his chumps would have already suspended players and handed out fines.

The coach is only one side of the equation. Where the fug was the OL and Benji??? If that was MY QB, I would have launched myself at the fugger who tried to hurt him even if I was a defender on the sidelines.

I agree that players would be suspended if Brady, Brees, and Rodgers if they were headhunted like Cam.

Yes, remeber the whole OBJ fiasco (the BAT!) and the score that followed in the following game - our lone regular season loss to the Falcons.

Making this into some huge public spectacle will only distract Ron & our players.  The media are running strongly with this, CBS, ESPN, SI, Bleacher Report, etc etc...  I think Ron's best action is:

1) Speak to the players and tell them honestly what he is doing to address it.

2) Work behind the scenes, get BigCat involved to get the NFL / NFLPA to act.

3) Once there is some findings or actions and emotions have cooled a bit, then he can address it more publicly.

We all know he's a players coach.

Trust that he's got our guys back on this one.  I really think he does.

I think Ron (and Cam) took the high road. However, I would've loved for Ron to rip this officiating crew to shreds. Sometimes you have to take a fine to get the point across. True, they won't see everything. But those hits Cam took, the knee shits KB took, those needed some head coach attention brought to it.

I watched Cam's post game and the answers he gave didn't match his body language. He mentioned that he warns the refs when he's being hit in the head but if they don't throw the flag then it's fine (meaning, what more can he do??) You know he's not one for excuses and rarely plays the blame game, but the team needs to rally around him and start pointing fingers. Especially the coaching staff.

If you want them to do something, publicly attacking them generally isn't a good tactic. Prior coaches have tried.

I agree the league's dropping the ball here and it needs to be addressed, but for Rivera and Gettleman the best way to do that is through the back channels.

Now if they don't even do that, there's a problem.

They haven't been working those back channels to this point then?

Or they have and back channels have proven to be ineffective?

First of all, i think he is smart to say he wants to watch the film first. I guess you dont think so because you said he handled it the wrong way, but i think you should rethink that.  Secondly,  I didnt say he should brush it under the rug and i dont think he will.  I think he will address it outside of the media.  There is enough attention on this anyway, and as the leader of this team, he is the one players will look to in order to move on.  If he were to complain about the refs to the media, you would see players giving those same types of answers to the media. He wants them to move on and and not feel sorry for themselves. Have you ever noticed how the players sound a lot like their coaches in interviews? Lastly, like i said before, he has made comments in the past about wanting the refs to protect Cam, and as you saw last night, it didnt do anything.
