NFL to discuss giving roughing precedent over grounding

Discussing whether the 1 causes the other? That was incredibly stupid, offsetting those penalties.... But doubt anything gets done about it, at least until next year's round of rule changes.....

Penalties shouldn't offset if one is worse than the other. Just do math and spot the ball the difference of the infractions.

A little too late don't you think. People used to think I had a tin foil hat on when I said we don't get any calls and cam gets murdered and nothing happens...now more people are stating to say: I know why you go off all the time about the refs haha

I understand the reasoning for some offsetting penalties because sometimes a penalty on one team is the cause for a penalty for the other team.  For instance, a team on offense can get a holding penalty allowing the QB more time in the pocket, which allows a receiver to get open and causes pass interference on the DB.  The PI could result in any of number of yards penalty on the defense, but the reality is that it's possible that the defense wouldn't have interfered if the offense wouldn't have held.  So, the fair ruling is offsetting penalties.

Personal fouls are a little different, but I'm sure there are some scenarios where things get a little murky if a personal foul doesn't offset with something else because then you might have to take into account yardage gained as a result of the play and other factors.  Sometimes the yardage gained by the offense is due to the penalty on their part, so the offense shouldn't get rewarded for cheating just because a personal foul happened to occur later in the play.

All that said, it seems pretty obvious that the result of the intentional grounding and roughing scenario in our game doesn't seem right.  I don't remember the down and distance at the time, but it seems obvious that this is one scenario where you could easily mark off both penalties and at least give the offense an automatic first down out of it.  There might not be much of a yardage distance depending on how many yards are lost on the grounding, but the automatic first down seems like it should always be included as punishment against roughing a QB.

Yeah, and the personal fouls two strike and you're out rule should be for physical personal fouls like roughing the passer or late hits or hits out of bounds, not, for instance, jumping up and down after a touchdown. 

The fact that Trai Turner was the closest one to being ejected in the Bronco game is an absolute farce.

Odell Beckham just speared a guy with a 15 yard running start? Offsetting penalties and suspend him for the next game.

I've watched the replay of that hit on Cam many times, I know they try to say that the hit didn't cause the short pass, but it sure looks like mid pass Cam sees him coming and starts to brace for impact causing him to pull up on the pass.

 

I mean come on this a Quarterback that can sail the ball 60 yards falling backwards with just a flick of his wrist.
