So I was debating with couple of friends why we suck paticulary the secondary and the release of Bene was kind of odd. So I did a little digging around & couple of bird came with words that one of issue might have been due to him freelancing (now confirmed by Rivera ) but the bigger issue might have been the debate around protesting the national anthem. ( one of the press conference Ron Rivera got heated that this is football and poltics shouldn't be involved which I believe he was forced into the statement  to protect  the coaches and the players).  I believe Jerry Richardson came in sent a message that he was not having this. Also another thing I am hearing is that there might be a rift between Ron & Gettleman  for not providing the proper talent and ignoring  Rons input in crucial decisons. Todays press conference " it was kind of dicey to roll with young secondary & basically we just hung our hat on last years performance on certain players so we didn't  do nothing to improve the areas."

If you want to get a good sense of the the team just watch all the interviews on Panthers.com  or all of this could be balony but its up to you to figure out.

I think if there is fight between Ron & DG hopefully the player stand by the coaches.

This is a public vote put your money where you mouth is fellas we will find out in 2017!

You would choose Ron over Dave ? Three straight NFC south championship Superbowl appearance have come under Dave. All of Ron success his only 2 winning seasons 2 COTY have come under Dave. This 1 and 5 start is nothing new under Ron what was Ron excuses the other years when Dave wasn't here? We have 95 percent of the same roster that want to the Superbowl a once and a generational QB LB and 8 to10 top 5 to10 players at their position coming into this season but yet again we start slow and start off with a losing record. How come other young QB have more winning season in their first 4 to 5 years and back to back winning seasons but cam can't because of Ron. How come it took Ron year 6 and a1 and 5 start to come out and say he need to look around the NFL and adjust.that's something a rookie head coach would say.Everyone who defend Ron on this board admits that Ron is a average head. How can panthers fans wants to upgrade over average players but don't want to upgrade over a average coach and average coaching staff?  Yes Dave is somewhat to blame for this season but i can not put the majority of the blame on him when having slow starts is a trend under Ron.

Nope 2011 & 2012 where building years after  the team went 2-14 in 2010. 2013 team the major core is majority of Matt Hurneys . 2014 we let go of # WR 1 & franchise LT  while D.G.  leaves  cam with one of the worst tackle tandem while coming off ankle surgeory oh yeah and you lose your best pass rusher so slow starts happen but guess what good coaching overcame it and help the panthers get a playoff win. 2015 was good year thanks to help of D.G. draft choice so yeah he got

1 fuging year right.

So Dave didn't have anything to do with that 2013 season ? So making the DT unit a strength after it has been a weakness for the panthers for years. getting guys like Mike Mitchell that had a career year getting guys like Ted Ginn and Drayton that help us to a 12 and 4 record.  Ron was on the hot seat in 2013 for starting slow again and had to a do 180 because his job was on the line he had to learn how to adjust .Ron had enough talent in 2011 and 2012 to have a winning season. We had a once in generation QB and LB the best running back tandem the best tightend tandem a top 5 wr all pro LT and C and above average LG and RG a top 10 CB 2 good DE Dwan Edwards  TD Beason Anderson Godfrey a pro bowl FB and bunch to average players in 2011 and 2012 and still couldn't win because of coaching mistake    Rebuilding year ? Tell that to the colts that had three winning season after going 2-14 you can not tell me we weren't as talented or more talented as the 2012 colts team during Ron first 2 years. How many big leads did we blow under Ron the first two years ? Yes Dave is at fault for the 2014 season we can agree on that but we had enough talent without hardy to win at least 9 to10 games. Is the 2016 Dallas team more talented then the 2014 panthers team ? How many games did we lose because of coaching mistakes that year and in the past? You have the Seahawks with a worst O-line and bunch of UDFA and still 5 and 1 New England has a bunch of sub par players on their O-line had a second and third string QB and just traded their best pass rusher and they are 5-1 we are more talent then more then half of the NFL but still start slow and can't win back to back seasons. Panthers fans are to busy complaining about what we don't have the talent we lost instead of looking how many top 5 and 10 player we do have at their position. you have teams and coaching winning with less. We do have.we have more top 10 players at their position then most of the NFL but yet we still can't win. The defense and the secondary was good enough to beat MIN TB and DEN and the lack of adjustment in the second half poor situational and lack of motivation was the reason for those losses that's falls on the coaching. Dave is to blame for this season but Dave has done more good then bad for the panthers. Ron has done more bad then good for the panthers 2 winning season out of 5 year.

Forget it. He just doesn't seem to get that Rivera's first couple of seasons were  a wash because of rebuilding. He also doesn't understand the gradual progression of Cam who was about as green as they come when drafted in a pro style offense. And neither does he understand the paramount importance of a rock solid LT.  I guess that after the team had been gutted of veteran leadership with noobs and and aging Band-Aids that Rivera and company were supposed to come out on fire.

And, so what if Rivera had two COTY awards under Gettleman? It's not like Gettleman was coaching the team. G-man is responsible for providing Rivera with NFL-level talent.

I'd like to know what coaches are doing more with second and third stringers---and people who shouldn't even be on an NFL roster---than Rivera, since he keeps on beating that drum.

I hope neither guy leaves in the offseason. I hope they can come together (with Mr. Richardson) and address all of the holes on this team and make some much needed upgrades.

Next season we must get at least one pass rushing DE, a consistent OT (preferably right side if you can only get 1), a solid CB to team with Bradberry, and a SS (so Coleman can move back to FS). A blocking FB who can catch wouldn't hurt either. This is doable for 2017. We should have 4 picks in the 1st 3 rounds and a little cap room to sign some FA's. Some other guys just need to be let go to  upgrade the roster (I won't name any names but I'm sure we can all name 4 or 5 guys in under 10 seconds who really wouldn't be missed if they were released during the off season).

There is actually a good bit of talent on this team. We just need everyone to get on the same page. And, some of those 1st round and 2nd round picks we have that aren't starting or playing most of the game (Shaq, Devin, and Vernon) need to more playing time to make an impact and prove their worth. If Devin can't win the #2 WR spot, shouldn't he at least by the #3WR? For this season How about kicking Kwann out to DE at times, move ealy to LE on passing downs and bring Butler in to rush the passer along with Starr? We've got to put the best players in the best position to contribute.

If you actually followed football you would know that just about every coach in the leauge that starts with a new team usually have couple of slow years before the team takes off no matter what talent they have.

All I know is each year under Ron we took a step forward

2011: 6-10

2012: 7-9

2013: 13-3 playoff birth

2014: 7-8-1 playoff win

2015: 15-1 SB birth

2016: SB win?

A blind GM would have drafted Star at our pick.  Seattle has decent OL  but also has a  top 5 defense each year with the best secondary that is perfect for the pass happy NFL.  New England has differnt offensive system with 2 of the best TE , best coach , Good OTs   shiftty WRs that can get open real quick etc etc oh yeah one of the best QB. Obviously you dont know poo about football

KANSAS CITY -- Heading into Saturday's preseason opener against the Chiefs, Tom Cable was asked what he wanted to see out of his offensive line, with the Seattle assistant head coach stating he simply needed to see his players play football, because due to the physical nature of the position, judging the group's play during less-than-full-speed training camp practices can only show you so much.

Well, following the Seahawks' 17-16 win at Kansas City, one that came in thrilling fashion on the final play of the game, head coach Pete Carroll shared an encouraging assessment of the team's offensive line that features several new faces in new places.

“I was really pleased," Carroll said. "I thought the first group did a great job of driving the ball. Everything was really on it."

Against Kansas City, Seattle's first-string offensive line looked as it did in practice this past week. With J'Marcus Webb, who has been starting at right tackle in training camp, battling a knee injury, the Seahawks used Bradley Sowell at left tackle, Mark Glowinski at left guard, Justin Britt at center, rookie first-round pick Germain Ifedi at right guard, and Garry Gilliam at right tackle. The group ran just one series with starting quarterback Russell Wilson, but remained in the game into the second quarter.

“I thought the offensive line did great," said Wilson. "I was only in there for one series, but for that one series I had plenty of time, guys were solid up there up front. The communication, guys being engaged."

Before an end-zone interception ended the Seahawks' opening drive, Wilson had time to connect with open receivers, finding Doug Baldwin twice and Tyler Lockett once. Running back Christine Michael, meanwhile, finished the day with seven carries for 44 yards, 27 of which came on four totes during Seattle's initial possession, as he ran through tackles, and open holes.

“I told those guys, those guys did an outstanding job tonight, man," Michael said of Seattle's O-line. "Those guys were giving their running backs five yards before we even get touched. That’s always good. I hang my hats off to those guys. Without those guys, of course it’s hard to even throw the ball, run the ball, anything. So those guys did a good job.”

Added Ifedi: “I thought we did good. We communicated well. We picked up a lot of things they threw at us. We can always get better. This is the first preseason game, but I thought for the first game, for this group only being together a week or so now, I thought we were really good.”

The grouping of Sowell, Glowinski, Britt, Ifedi, and Gilliam saw anywhere between 23-25 plays together, according to Carroll's estimate, which is what the Seahawks had hoped to see. Britt is perhaps in the newest spot of the bunch, having started at right tackle his rookie season, left guard last season, and now making the move to center, with Saturday's game marking his first real action at the position.

“This is my third year in the NFL and I’ve kind of gone up and down mentally and I finally feel like I’ve done a really good job in learning how I prepare and being in a calm setting mentally," said Britt. "I was talking with Russell, and I’ve felt like I’ve been [at center] for years, and he said the same thing. But I feel like that’s the way I prepared and having a great coaching staff and everybody in the building, and trusting the guys next to me to do their job.”

In terms of the offensive line's communication with the quarterback, Wilson said it all starts with Britt, who in working with Wilson has been "in tune with what we're trying to do" while making "some great calls" that allowed the offense to move the ball "extremely well."

"He’s so dedicated to the craft," Wilson said of Britt. "He’s constantly studying, constantly asking questions. When we were out there I didn’t even realize it was his first game at center just because I’ve seen him so much, so many times, and he’s been in so many big games and so many big moments.

"There’s no fear in him. He loves the challenge. We love that he loves the challenge. He’s going to be great at it."

As Wilson said postgame, there is still plenty of room for improvement across the board on the offensive side of the football. But through roughly two weeks of training camp and now one exhibition game, the Seahawks quarterback feels confident in saying the offense is further ahead at this point of preseason play than it has been in any of his previous four NFL seasons.

“I think we’re right where we need to be," Wilson said. "I don’t think we can get too much better in the sense of guys being connected to one another. The calls, the plays, we’re playing with great tempo. There’s always room for improvement, obviously, as you go throughout the season and we’re just starting. We haven’t been this good in terms of collective offense I don’t think ever since we’ve been here, for four years, five years or whatever. So it’s a great start and we want to start where we finished last year. We want to accelerate. We want to continue to be able to do all the things that we can do.”

Coach Carroll admitted he would need to watch the film of Saturday's game before making a thorough assessment of the offensive line, but added "I thought we looked very solid and that’s a really good first outing for our guys. It looked like it’s looked in practice."

"I can’t wait to see this film," he said. "The sooner we can get to it the better just so we can see what all these guys look like and we’ll know more.” Read

Biggest issue is Gettlemen is letting the number of holes grow each year.  Gets harder to plug them. Maybe next year Gettlemen will draft a backup QB in the first round so he can use that as leverage when Cam's contract comes up again in several years.

    • This is spot on, with the first 5 years of a QBs contract being so pivotal, as it should, unless you have Pat Mahomes or the reincarnation of Tom Brady, stats shows once the qb gets paid, the teams Super Bowl chances shrink significantly  what we did to get Bryce was idiotic to say the least, not because of the player(not a Bryce endorsement) but because there’s a long history of proof, making big swings at qb, are usually big misses  find the identify, build around that, and go from there. Unfortunately we don’t have one, and neither the defense nor offense side of the ball are more than good at best
    • Seems like a loaded EDGE class. though I think we don't spend a premium pick there with Scourton/Princely showing production and potential.  Concepcion at 19 is intriguing and seen ARSB comps with his shiftiness, high IQ and YAC ability. He and TMac would be a nasty 1-2 combo at stretching a defense. Brenan Thompson could be that day 2 speedy/slot guy that could boost his draft stock in Mobile.  Sam Hecht could be a later selection for C depending on how we are planning to attack that position in FA and our own previous guys. Shelton from PSU is an interesting developmental tackle that if he can get locked into an NFL strength program and rock up, could be good down the road. Speaking of PSU, Dani Dennis Sutton was a guy last year I was big on and was bummed he headed back to Happy Valley. I think he can be a helluva NFL player, and if he can show improvement in his pass rush moves, I wouldn't be mad at him in a trade-back situation.
