Surprise, surprise. The hit by Campbell was deemed illegal. No poo, thanks NFL. Also, Gettlemen spoke to NFL on Monday.

One thing that stood out to me, was Calais coming up to Cam to apologize directly after the hit.

I believe he was tripped up or something. Good on him though.

Yeah, slapped him on the chest and you could tell stated he was sorry.  Campbell seems like a class act for the most part.

If he gets tripped then it's not actually a penalty. Likely he just made a mistake and hit him low. Got carried away going for the hit and screwed up.

Im loving that our team and staff have finally stood up for Cam and took it straight to the top...  that being said, i still dont know how it took this long to happen.  The season opener shouldve been enough...  regardless, i am just happy that theyve addressed it.  Theres nothing but good that can come from this.

I don't think he did it on purpose. He's never been that player. But intentional or not, should've been flagged. I thought it was stand up for Calais to try to apologize.

Wanted to add that I don't believe anyone here was blaming Campbell either...

We just want some immediate changes. Someone to come out and say "look, we've got this wrong so far. We apologize to Cam Newton and the Panthers organization for not getting this right. Changes will be made. Also....effective today, Ed Houculi is fired for comments regarding Cams age being a factor in no calls. Thank you."

That's how it happened to Brady, he was pushed into Brady's leg.  It's a penalty regardless like I stated before.

No its not.

Rule 12, Section 2, Article 12 (roughing the passer) says that: "A rushing defender is prohibited from forcibly hitting in the knee area or below a passer who has one or both feet on the ground, even if the initial contact is above the knee. It is not a foul if the defender is blocked (or fouled) into the passer and has no opportunity to avoid him."

    • Yes, he's a tier above them, but you also touched on the money side of it.  With T-Mac locked in as our #1 on a rookie contract for a few more years, I'd much rather use that money that would be needed for DJ on our defense and develop Coker into our #2.   Especially given his contract situation as an UDFA, as his contract is up at the end of this year but we can keep him around for a 3rd team controlled year on the real cheap.  Which means we probably could get him to sign a very reasonable extension this offseason to give him a little more money while giving us a bargain contract for what he provides. DJ's contract is north of $20 million for the next 5 years, why pay that for your #2 WR with the needs we have on defense and you have guys like Coker, XL, and Horn on rookie contracts who very well could combine to be a serviceable 2-4 WRs behind a stud in T-mac? I love DJ and he'd be a great fit on this team as our #2, but the money side of it just makes absolutely zero sense, that's all it comes down to for me on this one. And no, I don't see the Bears wanting XL back in that trade, because they drafted Burden, who is essentially a better version of what XL provides, a player you want to get the ball into their hands and let them go to work.
    • I didnt see that many bad calls in the panthers cowboys game, but the chiefs especially in the playoffs were getting every single call they could get then the refs when it didnt matter would throw a call towards the other teams.  That I believe was the taylor swift effect.   But its crazy just thinking about how easy it is to change a game.  You dont need but a single ref to make a few close calls go towards one team over the other and in the nfl that is the game.
    • I don't think it's unrealistically blaming Bryce Young......to say has been a reason, sometimes a big one, in why our pass offense overall has been extremely week over the past 3 collective seasons.  I think that bothering anyone, is just being overly invested in some Bryce Young argument.  It's just a reality.
