A couple things...  They invested very high draft picks on their OL. Like top half of the draft. Where DG has never been. Second, they either got very very lucky on hitting on those picks or they're just historically good at scouting OL which I doubt. Martin and Smith are the best at their respective positions in the league, you don't get that just by "investing in OL." Took luck on the picks and a high draft spot.

Yes because whene we pick stud DL & LB we know what where doing and not get lucky :-/. They did good scouting and all the draft picks where raved about during the draft process they just actually invested in that area.

Whenever any player picked in the draft becomes the best player at his position in the league, there is a huge amount of luck there. You can only do so much when scouting college players and much of the draft is indeed luck. If the Patriots knew how Brady would turn out they wouldn't have drafted him in the 6th round. There was nothing in college that showed that Tyron Smith would be that much better than Eric Fisher or Luke Joeckel and all three were huge top 10 investments by their team. Only one has worked out.

We could steal the Cowboys offensive line scouting reports and go draft the best available there in the first round every year for the next 5 years and it'd be unlikely we hit on more than 1 or 2 of them even if we were picking in the top half of the draft, which we haven't been and probably won't be even this year.

The bigger issue is called investing in the areas p.s. we dont have to get HOF for each OL position but above JAG  players. Just like the Butler pick we knew he had the "potential" and we drafted him  so he can be developed into a premium talent, same thing can be done for OL. BTW  fuging FUPA man doesn't value the OL fo course he is stupid dumb mother fuger that should get fired.

Right now we are slated to pick number 6

Both our guards are well above average and Kalil is easily top 5, if not the best, center in the league. Oher is obviously above "JAG" and Williams has looked very good at RT with Oher out. With Oher and Kalil healthy and Williams at RT our OL as a whole is probably top 10-15 in the league. I'd say that's "above JAG."

Yeah but you know what'll happen. We'll drop another game or two but finish strong yet again under Rivera, go 7-9 or 8-8 and end up picking like 18th.

They were criticized for taking that center at the time. it worked for them but not all were raved about. The Tyron Smith pick was questioned at the time too. Obviously it worked for them.
