You just completely missed it. Do you remember Ladarius Green on San Diego? SD has a history of using 2 TEs effectively. Mike Shula does not. Pay attention please. I am saying that you are making a huge assumption that Henry would have remotely been used the way you ASSUME he has been in SD.

Mike Shula does not because h never had  the proper personel, and if he was on the team he would have taken Tolberts & Dickson's role in the backfield but he would be far better recieving option. Why do you think this teams been shuffling through garbage bin  at the TE postion throughout the season.

Rewatch the Colts game last year. The panthers had no choice but to blitz down the stretch because the d-line was tired.

From that standpoint I blame coaching, that has single handily been the main reason teams have made comebacks on us, the mindset to take the foot off the pedal too soon, which is baffling given we had games like last year vs the redskins and this year vs the 49ers where we drop 40+ on a team

I agree but if you watch most NFL games teams that are down with huge deficit usually rallies back due to more risker play calling.

I agree. When the panthers have a big lead they run up the gut 3 times and hope the defense can get a stop.

Then when the other team rallies, they may throw it early in the downs but they will usually run it twice and hope Cam can make magic happen and convert  3rd down via rush or pass.

That wasn't the point I was trying to make. You said that linebackers are gimmie picks and that Gettleman should take more risks OT, DE, etc.

I was asking would you rather miss on a pick or take a sure thing? Because if Gettleman had picked DJ he would have been criticized for it..

What were your thoughts on the Luke pick?

What makes you so sure? looking at the success of a player we could have had on another team doesn't equal being a bust here. it's to many other variables that go into the success of a player who is drafted to a team. Coaching, scheme, and environment plays a big part as well. Last time I checked most of AZ O line is made up of FA so it's not a surprise DJ is struggling....what other linemen has that team developed under Arians? Henry would have been a even better pick here not just cause of talent but working under great coaches and getting to learn under arguably the best TE in the league.

How do you know that for certain?

So Vernon isn't working under great coaches?

How do you know that he he wouldn't be more productive,  it goes both way for Big Vern & Henry. I would say Henry would have more impact due to more playing time for him and Panthers willingess to run the ball 50% of the time.

No poo. These round and round discussions are wonderful. Eric Ebron was taken 10th overall and he's still barely contributing. Hunter Henry on our team this year wouldn't be the same as what he's been in SD and people would be complaining that we blew a 1st rounder on a TE we don't need since we have Olsen. Funny that our two DTs are signed through 2016 and 2017 and will command a good chunk of change, yet DT is an awful position to draft. Olsen is signed through 2018.

Love the fact that our 2nd TE under Shula as OC has a best season of 17 catches for 121 yards when Benjamin was lost for the season and we had no legit #1 WR, but this thread (DG haters part of it) seem to think that Shula would rewrite his playbook for Hunter Henry. He would be doing very little this season if we drafted him and we'd have an extra loss last week against NO if Butler doesn't block the FG. Rainwhatever would have started a thread about some other draft pick.

"vernon butler was right there i mean damn.  especially with a long term deal with short not looking likely that would have solved a problem but noooooo gettleidiot just had to have his luxury pick.  we already have an all pro tight end, we don't need another one if he even pans out"
