LOL: Ron on the decision not to go for it on 4th and 1

I will never criticize a coach for being aggressive and going for the win. 4th and 1. Cam freaking Newton at QB. You're telling me the OL can't get enough push for Cam to dive forward for a yard? Please.

You can't afford to be conservative when you are 4-6 and staring up at the other 3 teams in the division. Have to go for it there.

Also, even if it had failed we would have been left with more time on the clock and timeouts on the final drive.

I just want a coach who isn't such a moron with the clock and just stands there and stares at empty space.. please hire someone worth a damn for once.

This gets me! Every time they show Rivera and he's glancing up, I always feel like he's counting stars, sheep or thinking about what Mrs. Rivera made for supper. My son got so mad Sunday and he goes "why is he looking so stupid??" Bad when a kid notices how clueless you look at times.

I guess being decimated on the OL and having virtually no push up the middle when Gradkowski went down had no bearing on the decision.

Truth is we got the ball back and had a chance to tie the game or win if Olsen catches that pass.

We were moving the ball very well in the 4th quarter...both run and pass. The momentum of the game had clearly switched to the Panthers, Oakland knew it and were playing on their heels. The decision not to go for it halted any momentum we had established, deflated any confidence the offense had created for themselves...and we still fuggin lost the game. When your coach doesn't believe you can gain less than a yard in a KEY moment in a game and for the season...TRUST ME, this was more than a game call, it was a call that I beleive will alter the remainder of the season, it sends a powerfully negative message to the TEAM and FAN BASE.

Good because the fans and hopefully the players could careless about fuggin Coach of The Year awards. If we are not contending and winning titles get him out of here. And I do believe that Ron Rivera needs to go because he can't make the right decisions when the game is on the line. Just walking around the sidelines looking lost with shades on.

This! If players weren't questioning his faith in them before, they are now. Fans should be as well. I don't care, 4-6 and the season on the line. I have Cam Newton at QB, I'm going for it every time. If I have faith in no one else, it's my franchise freaking star player who has brought me through more times than he hasn't.

Offensive line was fielding back ups of back ups in two positions, two starters playing out of position and Cam hadn't been able to move the ball on the ground all day. Stewart, barring that one great run, had been stuffed all day, Tolbert had continued his futility and Fozzy, well, he just wasn't happening either.

Short, quick throw? Was there any real reason to think that would work when it hadn't all day? Barring the two big miracle TD passes, Cam was having one of his worst passing days ever.

And, we're sitting there on our own side of the field. Not making the first down would give them incredible field position. Fumbling or throwing another interception would end the game almost immediately.

Three timeouts, a defense that had come alive and brought the team back into the game, and Carr playing exclusively from the shotgun due to a dislocated finger on his throwing hand.

Rivera made the logical choice, conservative or not. Had they gone for it and failed, he would have been crucified for that, too.

So you're saying you would have rather put your faith in a defense that had already given up 32 points than a 6'5 250lb athletic freak to pick up 3 ft?

Ohhhhh I can only imagine what Cam and other offensive players say about Ron and his Piss poor decisions behind closed doors.

Ron won coach of the year honors as a result of player performance more than coaching excellence.

No we were not moving the ball after Gradkowski went down on the last play of the third quarter. We ran it in the third but not the fourth. And moving it well might be an exagerration. we sputtered and hit some big plays.

The Benjamin touchdown was really the last decent drive and that was a few short completions and a 44 yard toss up to Benjamin who wrestled the ball for the catch.

We get the ball back at 8:31 and pass it to Ginn for 9, and Stewart for 3 yards. Then a holding penalty and 2 more passes and a punt on 4th and 1. We get it back with 2 minutes left  and Olsen goes for 20 and Funchess for 11 and three incomplete passes and a strip sack fumble. Game over. In the fourth quarter we only attempted 1 run for 3 yards.

Most any coach doesn't go for a 4th and 1 on your side of the field in a tie game with 5 minutes left. It isn't not believing in your offense so much as playing field position and not giving up an easy score if you don't.make it.

Then you should be completely satisfied with your coach...I'm happy for you!

    • All these rankings have more to do with the writers love or hate for a team.  Morgan, IMO, has done a really good job at building this team.  Yeah, there are a couple of whiffs but for the most part he has done quite well drafting and signing free agents.  22 is a bit low but it's a stupid opinion based on how little a writer knows about the Panthers.
    • When I saw that I was thinking the same thing.  If Evero does have a great season and gets hired as a head coach I wouldn't mind see McD as our DC.  If we do poorly as a team, I definitely would want him to be the front runner for HC.
    • But it's not about not upsetting a player under contract, it's about not causing a rift in the locker room. The players love Bryce, whether as a person or a player doesn't matter.  You can't spend a Top 10 pick on a QB and then still start your #1 overall pick in the last year of their contract. That act alone will cause a massive locker room rift/distraction that would be unavoidable.  Some players will question why you "wasted" a Top 10 pick on a QB you're not going to start instead of someone who can help right away.  While others will question why we are keeping Bryce around for the season when it's clear he's not the future guy at that point. It would just make for a bad start to the rookie's career while causing locker room distractions.  Again, I'd bet this has never happened in this league before with any 1st round QB, let alone the #1 overall pick, and there is a reason for it, which is that it would be epically stupid to do. And I used the Vikings as the example as they're the closest I can think of, because again, there isn't a direct comparison as nobody has ever done it because it's that dumb of an idea (no offense lol).
